Marion McAlpin, 46, Empire, Colo., passed away on Monday, March 21, 2005 at
his home in Empire, Colo.
He was born on Nov. 15, 1958 in Auburn to Ed McAlpin and Betty McEntarfer
McAlpin. He was a painter at Indian Springs Resort, Idaho Springs, Colo., a
member of Teamsters Union and a 1978 graduate of Dekalb High School.
Survivors include his father and step-mother, Ed and Joan McAlpin, Fort
Wayne; his mother, Betty McEntarfer McAlpin, Peru; two brothers, Bill
McAlpin, Bunker Hill, and David McAlpin and wife Mary, Auburn; a sister,
Dianne and husband Rev. Kenneth Walker, Peru; and four nieces and nephews,
Matt McAlpin, James, Amanda and Dylan Walker.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Feller Funeral Home,
Waterloo, with the Rev. Kenneth Walker officiating. Burial will be at
Waterloo Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at
the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Bashor Children's
Home, Goshen.
V. Willadean Helvey, 87

V. Willadean Helvey, 87, Life Care Center, Rochester, formerly of Akron,
passed away at 4:35 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2005 at Life Care Center,
Rochester.
She was born on April 18, 1917 in Miami County to Frank Whisler and Alma
Berger. She married Maurice "Pete" Helvey on May 14, 1938 in Akron, and he
preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 2000.
Helvey was a homemaker and a member of Akron Church of God and the
Stringtown Friends Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Brown and husband Gary, Shepherd,
Mich.; two sons, Max Helvey and wife Alice, Kerners, N.C., and Dennis Helvey
and wife Connie, South Whitley; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren;
and two sisters, Phyllis Frye, Galion, Ohio, and Norma Eryie and husband
Pat, Lakeland, Fla.
Other than her husband she was preceded in death by one son, Stanley Helvey.
Funeral services will be at noon Thursday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron,
with Pastor Terry Canfield officiating. Burial will be at Akron Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial
contributions may be made to Akron Church of God or Hope Hospice.
Billy Joe "BJ" Adkins, 75

Billy Joe "BJ" Adkins, 75, Sebring, Fla., formerly of New Albany, passed
away Saturday, March 19, 2005 in Sebring, Fla.
He was a native of Lakin, Kan. and was CEO and chairman of the board at
Regional Federal Bank, New Albany, from 1963 to 1992. He was a 1950 graduate
of Ball State University and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Adkins was a member of St. John United Presbyterian Church in New Albany,
Golf Hammock Country Club, Kiwanis, Shriners, a 32nd Degree Mason and a life
member of the Elks. He loved playing golf until his health no longer allowed
him to do so.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donnalou Adkins, Sebring, Fla.; a
son, Kirk Adkins and wife Victoria, London, England; three grandchildren,
York, Tate and Elena, London, England; a sister, Mona Costello and husband
David, Logansport; a brother, Bob Adkins and wife Carolyn, Tell City; and
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Wanda Adkins; and a son,
Mark.
Funeral services and interment will be private. Visitation will be from 5 to
7 p.m. on Friday at the 1119 E. Market St. chapel at Seabrook Dieckmann &
Naville Funeral Homes, New Albany. Memorial contributions may be made to

Jimmie "Pete" Worden, 61

Jimmie "Pete" Worden, 61, Peru, passed away at 9:45 a.m. Monday, March 21,
2005 at his residence.
He was born July 25, 1943 in Kokomo to Clarence and Margaret Jones Worden.
Survivors include two daughters, Tonya Otis and husband Daniel, and Shelley
Wyatt and husband Paul, all of Peru; four brothers, Bob Worden and wife
Thelma, Denver, Jack Worden and wife Irene, Carl Worden and George Worden,
all of Peru; a sister, Jennie Lewis; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clarence "Bill" Worden;
and one sister, Mary Wingard.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home
with Pastor Les Cooper officiating.
Nancy E. Birchfield, 85

Nancy E. Birchfield, 85, Peru, passed away at 3:50 a.m. Tuesday, March 22,
2005 at Dukes Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 28, 1919 in Clark County, Ky. to Everett and Frankie Mae
Talbott Wolfe. She married Arthur Birchfield in 1942, and he preceded her in
death in 1988.
Birchfield attended First Assembly of God in Peru and was a member of the
V.F.W. and the Eagles auxiliaries in Peru. She was retired from United
Technologies in Peru.
Survivors include a son, Charles Mitchell Birchfield and wife Diane, Peru;
nine grandchildren, Robert A. Birchfield, Everett D. Birchfield, Charles
Mitchell Birchfield Jr., Charlene M. Brown, Tammy M. Stamper, Renda Sue
Loetz, Heidi Lynn Hill, Marllo Melee Wiley and Mildred Elizabeth Birchfield;
a special friend for many years, Buddy Kerns; two sisters, Dorothy Campbell,
Clinton Township, Mich., and Louise Roberts, Muncie; one brother, Floyd
Wolfe and wife Catherine, Peru; and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and four brothers, Robert,
Chester, Harry and Henry Wolfe.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Winchester Cemetery,
Winchester, Ky., with the Rev. Joseph Girdler officiating. Friends may call
at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home today from 4 to 8 p.m.

Ina Mae Miller, 88, Peru, passed away at 3:25 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2005 at
Dukes Continuing Care, Peru.
She was born in Las Vegas, N.M. on Nov. 2, 1916 to George and Estell Wedell
Bryan. She married Robert "Bob" Miller on Jan. 17, 1946, and he survives.
Miller was a homemaker and a member of the Christian Science Church, the
Order of the Amaranth Lodge and Eastern Star. She also enjoyed playing music
and loved animals.
Survivors besides her husband include a son, Charles Miller, Denver; a
daughter, Georgeanna Williams, Peru; a granddaughter, Amy Sofianos; and two
great-grandchildren, Alec and Isabella Sofianos.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral
Home, with Chaplain Steve Fleck officiating. Burial will be at Rankin
Cemetery, Miami County. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the
funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite

Wanda J. Murphy Albert

Wanda J. Murphy Albert, 82, Attica, passed away at the home of her son in
Lafayette on Monday, March 21, 2005, at 3:15 a.m.
She was born in Jefferson Township, Newton County, on May 31, 1922 to Leroy
and Rachel Warenford Murphy. She graduated from A.J. Kent High School in
Kentland in 1940, and later was a graduate of Martin University, where she
received her certificate to become a hairdresser.
Albert has lived in Attica since 1951 and moved to her son's home in
Lafayette in January 2004. On March 15, 1951, she married Warren L. Albert
in Lafayette. He preceded her in death Dec. 1, 2001.
She formerly owned beauty shops in both Lafayette and Attica. She was a
member of the Attica First United Methodist Church, Kappa Kappa Kappa
Sorority of Attica and Fountain County Home Economics Club. She had formerly
been active in the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts organizations, and she enjoyed
shopping at flea markets and had operated antique booths at Mansfield during
the Covered Bridge Festivals.
Surviving are a son, Mark Albert and wife Kathleen, Lafayette; a daughter,
Tammi Acree and husband Eddie, Peru; a sister, Mildred Perkins, Elizaville;
and seven grandchildren, Lorin and Preston Acree, Aaron, Mattea, Trinity,
Thaddeus and Malachi Albert.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Thursday at
11 a.m., with Pastor G. Scott Pattison officiating. Burial will be in the
Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Friends may call at the the funeral home on
Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Attica
