Thanks Debra,
This is the information on the person I received, would Peru, Miami, IN be
one of those counties that you describe? Do you know what year they start
actually using certificates? I live in SC so going myself is out of the
question. From the person whose certificate I am trying to get, mother's
surname you'll see why I really need this information to further our
research.
Francis Loretta MCGUIRE
b.3 Oct 1907, Columbia Avenue, Peru, IN
Father: William Arthur MCGUIRE b. 10 Sep 1875 Barren Co., KY; d. 30 Sep 1948
Peru, IN
Mother: Clara Abigail VINCENT/BENSON b. 5 June 1882 IN; d. 10 July 1957
Phoenix, AZ
My husband's grandmother died this year and his mom is elderly. They both
were unable to insure what his grandmother's surname was. I have worked on
this for years and this is the only line I have not been able to positively
document the surname.
I have William Arthur MCGUIRE'S obit but he had divorced Clara and remarried
in 1916 Estella BACHELOR, so no mention of Clara.
I sent for Clara's death certificate from AZ with information provided by
her second husband Walter THARP. He put her father as Perry VINCENT. Now you
would say well there is your answer. I still question it since he couldn't
give her mother's name nor either parents birth location. AH! one thing I
missed was her social security number on her death certificate. Maybe that
will give the answer without a doubt. Although it would still be nice to
have her birth information.
So my question is, would this county on this date give a certificate with
all the parents information? If they are only giving abstracts for this time
period are they including the needed information? I have paid once for this.
I don't mind paying but I sure don't want to pay again and get the exact
non-information again. They didn't even put it on a form like MI they hand
wrote it on the letter my husband sent. We requested the names on another
letter but they never answered.
Thanks for everyone's help it is so greatly appreciated.

Hi Bushy,
The birth or death certificate is generated at the time of the
event. The record of that event is found at the county board of health in
Indiana. These records are in large books. Each double page has about 12
- 15 entries on it. Each individual's information was recorded by hand
across the width of the two pages. Particularly on death records, the
amount of information found is dependent on what the next of kin
report. So if that person did not know the information it will not be
included. As I recall them off the top of my head the info for a death
certificate included the following:
Full name of deceased; place of death; marital status; spouse's
name if living; age in years, months & days; father's name and place of
birth; mother's maiden name and place of birth; last place of residence
of
deceased; primary cause of death; secondary cause of death; when
last
seen alive by a physician; name of physician; undertaker; cemetery;
date of burial.
In some counties they will make a genealogical abstract with all
the information for you. If you go in person, you can generally look at
the books for free and make your own abstract, but photocopying isn't
normally allowed.
