Robert A. Johnson, 54, Peru, passed away at 7:25 p.m. Monday, July 4, 2005 at Dukes
Memorial Hospital, Peru.
He was born Aug. 18, 1950 in Kokomo to Clara M. (Kingery) Johnson and Robert F. Johnson.
He married Sherry M. (Swisher) Johnson Aug. 21, 1971 in Kokomo, and she survives.
Johnson had worked for Turner-Powell Manufacturing, Kolux Manufacturing, Chrysler
Corporation and Kingston Products. He attended Bunker Hill United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than his wife include two sons, James Johnson, Michigan City, and Jason
Johnson, Kokomo; one step-son, Brian Collins, Kokomo; nine grandchildren, Joseph Garrett,
Blake, Britny and Blane Johnson, all of Peru, Amber, Chelsa and Sidney Collins, and Ashley
Gonzales, all of Kokomo, and a special grandson Mr. Johnson nicknamed "Sucky
Bear" is Brennen Callis, Peru; and one sister, Diana Riley Gruel, Tipton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Brandon Biehle; and a brother, Jack
Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ellers Mortuary, 725 S. Main St.,
Kokomo, with the Rev. Mike Zell officiating. Burial will take place at Springdale
Cemetery, Bunker Hill.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church.
Ardith D. Powell, 73

Ardith D. Powell, 73, Lafayette, passed away at 9:25 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at St.
Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.
He was born Aug. 10, 1931 in Landess to Arthur and Edna Powell. He married Barbara A.
Gibson June 15, 1957 in Marion, and she survives.
Powell graduated from Marion High School, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving
from 1951 to 1955 in Okinawa. He also lived in Peru prior to moving to Lafayette in 1989.
He was a sales representative for Bell Fiber, Marion, for 35 years. In addition, he was a
member of St. James Lutheran Church and the American Legion in Delphi. He enjoyed clocks,
making stained glass projects, rebuilding antique cars and was team dad for his
grandchildren's basketball teams at his church.
Survivors besides his wife include a daughter, Kim Phillippi Thomas and husband Brad,
Carrollton, Texas; two grandchildren, Adam and Andrew Phillippi; and a sister-in-law,
Marilyn Kelsey, Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sondra Bragg.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Soller-Baker Funeral Chapel, 400
Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, with Pastor David French officiating. Interment will be in
Grant Memorial Cemetery, Marion. Visitation will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the
funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. James Basketball Camp.
Connie S. Mills, 52

Connie S. Mills, 52, Peru, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2005 at Methodist
Hospital, Indianapolis.
She was born Dec. 9, 1952 in Peru to Norman T. and Velma E. Fauss Pyeritz. She married
Robert L. Mills April 27, 1985, and he survives.
Mills was a homemaker, attended St. John's Lutheran Church and belonged to the
following auxiliaries: Eagles, Moose and VFW lodges. She also was a regular at TOPS
meetings.
Survivors besides her husband include two daughters, Shawnna Sutero and husband Robert,
and Dera Shuler, all of Peru; a son, Corey Pyeritz, Peru; a brother, Mark A. Pyeritz and
wife Barbara, Peru; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Teddy Pyeritz.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, Peru, with
Pastor Kenneth Greenwald officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Peru. Friends
may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made
to the American Heart Association and/or American Lung Association.
Joyce C. McGowan, 60

Joyce C. McGowan, 60, Peru, passed away at 7 p.m. Monday July 4, 2005 at her residence.
She was born January 1, 1945 in Mount Greenwood, Ill. to Donavin and Helen Berry Winchell.
She married Jack McGowan Jr. on March 8, 2003, and he survives.
McGowan was employed at Kmart and attended Main Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than her husband include one son, Steven Westcott and wife Karen, Chicago,
Ill.; one stepdaughter, Catie McGowan, Peru; one stepson, Jack Durand, Peru; and two
sisters, Norma Smojie and husband Miran, Curtis, Wis., and Myrla Johnson and husband
Lloyd, Crown Point.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
In keeping with her wishes, Joyce has been cremated and there will be no visitation or
funeral service. Arrangements are by Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the American Cancer
Society.
