Opal Irene Schmidt, 92

Opal Irene Schmidt, 92, Peru, passed away at 4:05 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at Hickory
Creek, Peru, following an extended illness.
She was born on July 20, 1912 in Miami County to Harlan Puterbaugh and Faye (Parr)
Puterbaugh. She married Fred E. Schmidt on Jan. 23, 1942, and he preceded her in death May
5, 1971.
Schmidt was a homemaker, and lived in Miami County all her life.
Survivors include a cousin, Anna Faye Wimmer, Amboy; several nieces and two nephews.
Schmidt was preceded in death by her husband, parents and five brothers, Floyd, Victor,
Orville, Lyman and Rob Puterbaugh.
A graveside service will take place Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru, with
Chaplain Steve Fleck officiating.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, Peru.
Doris E. Wendt, 86

Doris E. Wendt, 86, North Manchester, formerly of Peru, passed away at 10:55 p.m. Tuesday,
July 12, 2005 at Wabash Skilled Care Center.
She was born Nov. 3, 1918 in Zanesville to Otis J. and Leona Fern Preskey Line. She
married John H. Wendt on Sept. 29, 1940. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1993.
Wendt was an artist and designed and made ceramic inserts for the St. Clair Glass Co. of
Elwood for more than 25 years. She was also a substitute teacher at Peru High School. She
graduated from Fort Wayne Southside High School and Fort Wayne Art School, and was a
member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Peru. She was a member of Ruth Chapter #120
OES, the Women's Literary Club, Indiana Paperweight Collectors Association, Miami
County Symphony Unit and a charter member of the Miami Arts Guild.
Survivors include four sons, Jere A. Wendt and Pam, Lakeville, John D. Wendt and Donna,
Lagro, Michael L. Wendt and Donna, Wabash, and Randy J. Wendt and Jill, Wabash; seven
grandchildren, Clark Wendt, Wendy Denney, Mark Wendt, Denise Wendt, Steve Wendt, Amy Wendt
and Kelsey Wendt; and one step granddaughter, Kandi Brandt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Gerald Line and Jack
Line; and one sister, Kathleen Carvin.
Services will take place at 2 p.m. Friday at Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, Peru, with the
Rev. Steve Ailes officiating. Burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour before the service on Friday at
the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Main Street United
Methodist Church.
Douglas A. York, 61

Douglas A. York, 61, Fort Wayne, passed away at 3:57 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at
Goshen General Hospital, Goshen. He had been hospitalized for one day after a three-year
illness.
He was born May 9, 1944 in Burbank, Calif. to John Walter and Virginia Pike York. He
graduated from Akron High School in 1963, and married Linda L. Crockett June 30, 1968 in
Akron. She survives.
York had been in the computer business, and was a member of Akron United Methodist Church.
In addition, he was a grandson of D.A. Pike.
Survivors besides his wife include a son, Dana A. York, McNeil, Miss.; his father in
Akron; a sister, Pamela Y. Melcher, Akron; a brother-in-law, Jack Fetrow and wife Shirley,
North Manchester; and two granddaughters, Kayla and Leah York.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Akron United Methodist Church, with Pastor
Kent Harting officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to
11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Society
of Allen County. Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, is in charge of arrangements.
Gene Moss, 64

Gene Moss, 64, Logansport, passed away at 9:48 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at Mount
Pleasant Community Hospital, Mount Pleasant, Mich.
He was born May 2, 1941 in Miami County to Carl David and Zella Ulerick Moss. He graduated
from Metea High School in 1959, and married Carol I. Williamson June 19, 1960 in Metea.
She survives.
Moss was owner/operator of Moss Fertilizer Service Inc., Twelve Mile. He also was a member
of American Legion Post 60, Elks Lodge 66, Rochester Moose Lodge and past president of the
Indiana Plant Food Association. He enjoyed flying, playing golf and running the family
business.
Survivors besides his wife and mother in Logansport include three sons, Steve Moss, and
Curt Moss and wife Karen, all of Twelve Mile, and Brad Moss and wife Teresa, Battleground;
a sister, Betty Klein and husband Dick, Logansport; a brother, Dick Moss and wife Jan,
Peru; nine grandchildren, Brandon and Mariah Moss, Brooke Hughes, Kyle and Kendra Huff,
Sarah Moss, Kelsey and Corey Moss and Matt Bohm; and two great-grandchildren, Lili and
Tyler Hughes.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Gundrum Funeral Home, Logansport, with
the Rev. George Hapner officiating. Burial will be in Metea Cemetery. Visitation will be
from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the
American Heart Association.

Angela K. Filback, 45, Kokomo, passed away at 4:05 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at Howard
Regional Health Systems, Kokomo.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at Jones Funeral Chapel, Morgantown, Ky.
