Phyllis Jean Miley "Maconaquah," 76

Phyllis Jean Miley "Maconaquah," 76, Wabash, passed away at 10:40 p.m.
Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at her daughter's residence in New Haven.
She was born June 25, 1929 in Wabash County to David W. and Lillie Marks Bundy. She
married Merrit W.J. Miley Feb. 18, 1961 at the Wabash Christian Church. He preceded her in
death April 26, 1988.
Miley was a member of Emmanuel Freewill Baptist Church. "Maconaquah" was the
last princess of the Miami Nation of Indians where she served as secretary to the Miami
Nation of Indians of the State of Indiana, Inc. She had worked for General Tire, US
Gypsum, Dana Corporation and retired from Wabash County Hospital in 1983, where she had
been a nursing assistant since 1973.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Gene Wampler and wife Rebecca, Bourbon, and David E.
Wampler, Wabash; a daughter, Shirley Ulery and husband Alan, New Haven; six grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash,
with Pastor Doug Phillips officiating, followed by tribal ceremonies officiated by
Wop-Shing of the Miami Nation. Burial will follow at Frances Slocum Cemetery. Friends may
call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to Emmanuel
Freewill Baptist Church or Parkview Hospice, Fort Wayne. The memorial guest book may be

Jacquelin S. Smith, 45, Peru, passed away at 2:10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2005 at her
residence.
A military graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at Mount Hope Cemetery,
Peru.
Arrangements are being handled by Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, Peru.
John A. Hawley, 84

John A. Hawley, 84, Audubon, Pa., formerly of Norristown, Pa., passed away Friday, July
22, 2005 at Montgomery Hospital.
He was born Dec. 5, 1920 in Peru to Grace Armitage Hawley and Harvey Hawley. He married
Emmajean Britton in Peru on Nov. 1, 1947, and she survives.
Hawley graduated from Peru High School in 1938 and received a civil engineering degree
from Purdue University in 1942. During World War II, he served as a 2nd Lt. 349th Engineer
Construction Battalion, Corps of Engineers. His entire professional career was with the
New York Central, Penn Central and Conrail railroads. After his retirement, he continued
working as a consultant for a New York City engineering firm. One of his final projects
during this time was reconfiguring the Penn Central tracks beneath Penn Station in New
York City.
Survivors other than his wife include two daughters, Kimberly Cooper and husband Mark,
Gurnee, Ill., and Lynn Grainger and husband David, Fairview Park, Ohio; three
grandchildren, Kelly Cooper-Chu and husband Kai, Lane Cooper and Nathan Grainger and wife
Jennifer; and one sister, Virginia Currey and husband Robert, Granger.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, John David Grainger.
Memorial services and visitation were held Tuesday, July 26, at Volpe Funeral Home, East
Norristown, Pa. Interment will occur in Peru at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the National
Kidney Foundation.
