Hope it works out, Kate. Keep in mind that Crawford Co. came from Orange Co. in 1812.
Don't know whether you meant Crawford or Pike....
Good luck
Carol

Carol, you just answered where my gg grandfather may have come into Indiana.
Riley KELLER was born 29 December 1811, place unknown. But he volunterred
for the Black Hawk War in 1832 at Charlestown, IN.
He has been my brick wall as unable to find out who his parents or siblings
were.
Thank you
Kate Keller Bourland

Hi, Ron -- there were two ways into Kentucky - and my family used
them
both.
John Selby, of Prince Georges Co., Md., went to Washington Co., Ky. 1800
(probably down the Ohio) --> Pike Co., Ind. 1807 --> either Nelson Co.,
Ky. or Crawford Co., Ind. 1812 (because of Indian unrest in Pike Co.,
etc.) --> back to Pike Co. in 1818.
His stepmother and some siblings were in Adair Co., Ky. by 1800 - probably
by way of the Cumberland Gap. However, two other brothers were in Madison
Co., Ky., and one went to Monongalia Co. (West) Virginia from there.
Of the Masters, Richard, of Prince Georges Co., went to Washington Co.,
Ky., by way of the Gap, then to Pike Co. 1821. He married a Fowler, as
did his sister, Dorcinasa, who also went to Pike Co.
There is an old Indian trail from Louisville to St. Louis (now US 50) that
most of the early pioneers used to get to that area of Indiana.
Prince Georges Co. was on the Valley road to western NC and went right
past the Gap. Then there was a trail leading to Louisville. For many it
was easier going that way that traveling up to Pittsburg to catch the Ohio
(tho they seem to have stayed south of Pittsburg, traveling by land.)

Hi Carol,
Would you know the time frame that your Selby's came to Adair
Co. and Pike Co. and the route they traveled and maybe other families they
came with?
Thanks, Ron
