William M. Miller was born December 26, 1817 in Indiana (a few sources say Tennessee) and
his wife Arena (or Arrena) Howell was born August 16, 1823 in Kentucky.
They were married August 17,1837 in Daviess County, Indiana. No information on their
ancestors.
This family appears in th 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses as follows:
1840: Not checked, but probably lived in Martin or Daviess County, Indiana
1850: Brown Township, Martin County, Indiana
1860: Madison Township, Daviess County, Indiana (Post office: Raglesville)
1870: McCameron Township, Martin County, Indiana (Post office: Kecksville - now Burns
City). Occupation: farmer.
1880: Richland Township, Cowley County, Kansas, in the village of Wilmot. Occupation:
farmer.
William Miller died March 2, 1892 at Wilmot, Kansas. He served in the Civil War in
Company C, 31st Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Infantry.
Arena Miller died March 30, 1900 at her home in Wilmot, Kansas. The name on her
gravestone is Arrena.
William and Arrena are buried at Wilmot Cemetery, Wilmot, Kansas.
They had 11 children: Phillip, Jim, John, Albert, Jasper, Julia, Martha, Minerva, Emmile,
Susan, and Elizabeth.
Their son Albert moved to Kansas with them, and later moved to Berlin, Roger Mills County,
Oklahoma, where he lived at the 1910 census. Albert Miller, who was sometimes known as
Henry Miller or Henry A. Miller and may have been named Henry Albert Miller, married
(wife's name unknown) in Indiana, probably in Daviess or Martin County, before the
birth of their first child in 1883. The wife of Albert Miller died after 1986, when
their youngest child was born, and before the 1900 census, where Albert Miller is listed
as widowed. Albert Miller and his wife had five children, all born in Kansas. Some
great-grandchildren are living, and one is related to me by marriage.
Other of the 11 children of William and Arema Miller may have moved to Kansas while the
others stayed in Indiana.
Some of their children may have stayed in Indiana when William and Arena moved to Kansas
between 1870 and 1880, and some of the children may have moved to Kansas with their
parents.
