I don't know the definitive answer, but I have some ideas for you. I'm
assuming that you've checked the Indiana and Ohio census indexes (when you
say you can't locate him). Have you checked Michigan? Yes, I know that
Michigan is a distance (even today!) from Martin Co. but you're dealing with
an ethnic group here and the Mennonites of Michigan, of Elkhart Co and
Martin/Daviess cos intermarry a lot! There are Mishlers in Goshen and
Nappanee (best cabinet makers in the state!). Michigan and northern Indiana
had many, many settlers from Ohio......even southern Ohio since there was a
swamp in the northwest corner of Ohio early on.
Goshen College (in Goshen, Ind.) is another source -- they have the Mennonite
records (of which there aren't a lot since they didn't document baptisms,
etc.)
Good luck. Carol Collins in South Bend

Can't locate him in Indiana or OHio in 1850. Death certificate does not
list parents. Parents Swiss speaking German, were in PA prior to 1827.
Mennonite of Lutheran-farmer-Spouse Mary Mishler in Indiana 1856.
