I'm new to the list & new to researching Martin Co for information, hope
you'll
all bear with me while I try to figure which way to turn next.
Nancy Baker kindly sent me information regarding the probate of Alexis Carrico's
estate in Dec 1869. I'm now hoping to obtain copies of the estate records
(hoping to find a few more answers!), and since this seems to be just a few
years later that what LDS has on microfilm I'll need to send for copies. Would
these still be at the courthouse (I understand they've moved) or perhaps at the
Historical Society now?
Anyone have knowledge of cost of the copies?

Meanwhile, what I have put together on Alexis estate. He was not married, the
estate went to his siblings or their children/grandchildren. His date of birth
is uncertain. Article by Homer Edwin Carrico on the Carrico Family which
appeared in the Filson Club Historical Quarterly Vol 25 Jul 1951 gives his name
as Alexander born 1812, son of Alexander Carrico & Mary Sedgewick. The section
on this family is primarily based on the research of Maude Carrico Russell in
the 1930's which is full of error's and therefore the 1951 article contains the
same errors.
Alexis Carrico was living in Martin Co for both the 1850 & 1860 census (family
resided Casey Co KY 1830 & 1840, Washington Co KY 1820, Fayette Co PA 1810 &
Montgomery MD 1800), but both census records seem to have major error's with
ages & even names, in 1850 he is listed as age 31, but 10 years later in 1860
he's only 29! His siblings were:
Nancy/Ann b. 1800 MD remained unmarried, living Martin Co IN with parents
Alexander aka John A in 1850 (age 40) 1860 in Martin Co IN with brother Alexis
(age 45) with brother Henry C. Carrico in Daviess Co KY 1870 (age 70) & with
sister Elizabeth Miles 1880 in Martin Co IN (age 79).
John Carrico b. ca 1805 MD married Susan Wethington lived 1830 Adair Co KY, 1840
& 1850 Casey Co., KY 1860 in Martin Co (then a widower) married Martin Co IN
1862 to the widow Mary Ellen (Queen) Burch, lived 1870 Daviess Co. IN died
before 1880. Some of his children married in Martin Co.
Elizabeth Carrico b. ca 1806 MD married Felix Miles before 1830 probably Casey
Co., KY. Resided 1830 in Casey Co KY & by 1840 resided in Martin Co. died after
1880.
Henry C. Carrico b. 1808 MD married 1st Nancy Wethington lived 1830-1850 Casey
Co KY 1860 until death 1890 in Daviess Co KY. Married 2nd wife Rebecca
Wethington a niece of his 1st wife.
James Carrico b. ca 1814 OH married Mary Wethington. lived Casey Co KY then to
KS where he died 1872.
Order of birth & even names of the following are uncertain at this time:
called Mary Ann Carrico by Homer Edwin Carrico, who also gives date of birth as
1802. She married William Alexander Wethington (b. 1815) late 1830's probably
Casey Co KY. She died before 1850 when her husband married a 2nd time to a woman
b. 1802. 1840 census gives her age as 20-30, so more likely born 1810-1815.
James Wetherington, Anne Wetherington, Susan Wetherington, Mary Wetherington &
Mathis Wetherington mentioned in the estate of Alexis Carrico. Mary & Mathis are
children of her son Mathis Wethington who died in the Cival War. Daughter
Elizabeth Ann or daughter Nancy both who were living in 1869 seem to be missing
from the probate? Or we have some children from the 2nd wife confused with the
1st (sigh)
called Agnes Carrico by H E Carrico who gives date of birth as 1806. Said to
have married a Mr. Apple had 1 daughter Lavina. Lavina "Apple" rec'd from
Alexis
Carrico's esate in 1869. Cannot locate her after 1860 census.
1850 next door to John A. Carrico (age 70 b. MD) in Martin Co is found Henry
Abel age 45 b. KY wife "Harriet" age 38 b. MD (both are listed as
idiots???)&
daughter Levina age 10 b. KY. 1860 a Louvina "Carrico" age 19 is residing with
Alexis Carrico. 1840 census in Casey Co near the other Carrico's is a Henry
Abell, no doubt the son-in-law of Alexander & Mary Carrico! Was his wife's name
Agnes or Harriet & was she born 1806 or ca 1812?
Alexis probate also lists an Alice "Fredericks" said by H E Carrio to have been
born 1810. 1850 census resided in Martin Co IN with John A Carrico (age 70 b. MD
is an Allab??? (name unreadable) age 35 b. KY. Is this our Alice? I cannot
locate her after 1850, not as a Carrico or a Fredericks. However, I have found
an Ella Carrico married a Charles Hendricks 1856 in Martin Co. Everything else
seems such a mess with this family, Could Fredericks have been confused for
Hendricks? Unfortunately I can't locate Charles Hendricks either in any census
through 1880 (sigh)
Would appreciate any clues and/or correspondence with anyone interested in any
of the above. Henry C. Carrico s/o Alexander Carrico & Mary Sedgwick is my
ancestor.
