"OBITUARY"
"Paul R. Harris (My uncle who was a twin), age twenty one, a life
resident of Indianapolis, who died Saturday in the home, 227 Hiawatha
Street, (for those of you listers who live in Indianapolis or are
familiar with the city, our grand old turreted Victorian house and family
home place at the above address, is now under the IUPUI Tennis courts),
after an illness of several months, was buried today in Crown Hill
cemetery, following services in the Harry W Moore chapel.
Mr. Harris was a member of the Merritt Place Methodist Church. Survivors
are the parents, Mr and Mrs Joseph Edgar Harris (my Grandparents) and two
sisters ,is Pauline Harris (Paul's twin sister), and Mrs Dom Marie
(Harris) Dragoo, two brothers, Charles David Harris and Samuel Frederic
Harris (my Father), and the grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. David H. Harris, all
of Indianapolis. DOD September, 1939."
"MORTUARY"
"Elizabeth Sommers, nee Shaffer was born in Ohio, August 17, 1824, and
died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John O'Dell in east Odon, on
December 2, 1901, aged 77 years, 3 months and 5 days. She was the wife of
the late Joseph Sommers, and leaves six children, 29 grandchildren and
four great grandchildren, and a host of friends to mourn their loss. The
children are Jacob, John, Oliver, Mrs. Charles Freeman, Mrs John O'Dell,
and Mrs David H. Harris. (my GGrandmother).
She also leaves two brothers, Andrew and John Shaffer, aged 82 and 80
years respectively. She married Joseph Sommers April 16, 1846. Six years
later they moved to Indiana, settling near Odon . For almost sixty years
she had been a member of the M.E. church, and a worker for her Master.
She was one of the twenty four charter members of the Good Hope Church.
During her last illness, although she suffered much at times,she never
complained, but was ready and willing to go at the call of the Savior.
The funeral services were conducted by the Rev M S Taylor at Good Hope
Tuesday morning; burial at Walnut Hill cemetery."
"OBITUARY"
"M I Hochstetler, whose death on Thursday morning, was born in Sugarcreek
Twp., Tuscarawas County, Ohio, October 5, 1834; his age therefore being
75 years, 5 months and three days.
He was the son of Issac and Barbara Hochstetler, who were among the early
settlers of this township. (along with my GGgrandparents), His father was
born in Pennsylvania, Along with my family), and came to this state when
he was about 21 years of age. His Grandfather, Benjamin Hochstetler, when
he first came from Pennsylvania, settled several miles west of Canal
Dover, but later moved to this township.
In May 1853. Mr. Hochstetler was married to Susan, daughter of Jacob
Miller. To this union were born eleven children, as follows; Catherine,
widow of C. Neff of Oscoda Co, MI., Jacob of this township, Fanny at
home, Salome, wife of AC Miller, near this place; Albert of this place,
Emanuel of Geauga Co., Ohio; Leah, wife of Jeff Schrock near Barrs
Mills; Sarah Ann, deceased; John, of Stillwater, this County; William, of
Oscoda Couty, MI., and Amanda, wife of Hiram B. Troyer of Howard County,
Indiana.
Mrs. Hochstetler died March 15th,1890, aged 55 years, 6 months and 12
days, and Mr. Hochstetler remained a widower from that time until his
death, his daughter, fanny, keeping house for him.
In his early years he united with the Amish church and remained a
consistent member until his death. Funeral services will be held at the
Union Hill church, Saturday afternoon 1 o'clock, interment in the
cemetery nearby, where his wife and daughter have been laid to rest."

"Isaian Harris of Geauga County , Henry Auman of Portage County and
Edward McClay of Buckhannon, West Va., were here to attend the funeral of
Mrs. Elizabeth McClay last Wednesday."
"Clay City News, August 1912"
" Lafayette- Mrs. James Slayton, wife of a hotel employee, committed
suicide by taking strychnine while waiting at the Big Four station for a
train to take her on a visit with relatives in Fowler. She died in the
arms of her husband, declaring with her last words that "she could not
live without him".
"Marion- A desperate attempt was made to assassinate Policeman Albert
DeWeese. The would be assassin climbed to the roof of a building and
attempted to drop a boulder on the officer who stood on the sidewalk
below. The boulder grazed the officer's helmet and struck his foot
crushing the bone and rendering him helpless. The culprit managed to
escape."
