I do have a copy of a letter from George W. Shirey to John B. Martin in
Warren Co., KY, administrator of the estate of Tarlton Drake (grandfather of
George's wife, Hester Ann Moberly). He wrote it in 1858. His wife eventually
received about $300. It's not very interesting, but here it is (he didn't
use punctuation marks):
Dover Hill Martin County Ind May 12, 58
John B. Martin Dear Sir
I understand that you are the administrator of the Estates of Tarlton
Drakes or his widows and also of the Estate of A. G. Drake I would like if
you would inform me how many heirs to the first Estate and when likely to be
Settled as nigh as you can tell at present and tell me when A. G. Drake died
you will please answer this as soon as it comes to hand as I am anxious to
know Direct your letter to
Dover Hill Ind
yours Respectfully
George W. Shirey
(A. G. Drake was one of Tarlton's sons. Tarlton died in 1852, his wife,
Mary, in 1856, Albin Gilpin Drake (A. G.) died a few months after her. There
were nine heirs, most of whom predeceased their parents, Tarlton and Mary,
so that the money went to the grandchildren. Tarlton's daughter, Delilah,
was Hester Ann's mother.)

George W. Shirey was a partner of my grandfather, John Huebner, for
awhile
early in the century. At that time, they had a hardware/harness shop.
John bought out George's share and turned it into the Huebner Hardware
store
-- I do have pictures of that.
I'd love to know a little about George Shirey -- so far all I know is what
is
in the business records. (which, virtually is just the above
<G>)
