I would like to thank the list for their response to my queries about
James Sylvester Crane and possible connections to the Ragle family. I
received several very useful notes. The situation is so amusing I
thought I would return a summary to the list:
There is a connection between James S. Crane and the Ragle family via
the Ragle-Lents family connection. The connection to John Ragle-Eliza
Webster' daughter is also correct, except that I have Emerson Holt
spelled "Emberson", and there is also a connection between Cannon and
Ragle via a Ragle tribesman who moved up from KY. There is a direct
[crooked] line from other Holt family to Ragle. Furthermore, it may be
that a Sarah Ragle was married to James Crane's grandfather. The John
Ragle-Eliza Webster connection is the most direct, but it appears that
the situation outlined in the song "I'm My Own Grampa" pales beside this.
Once again, thanks(?)
John Ragle
