This is my mystery. Any connections will be received with a welcome and much gratitude.
This family migrated from Md to KY to Daviess Co. and Martin Co. IN. The mystery is who
connects James M. Queen and Richard M. Queen to the families in Maryland. Phatom Parents?

account you read. He was born in 1820. He apparently came to Brown Township, Martin Co, In
as a young man and married at age 19 to Mary Magdalene Strange. They had two children:
Joseph born in 1841 and William Ignatius born in May 1845.( this is my great grandfather).
James then married Priscilla Miles and had eight more children. He was in the Army during

QUEEN HISTORY by Herman "Joe" McAtee
After the Revolutionary War, in the year of 1785, a league of sixty Catholic families was
formed in Maryland, (mainly residents of St. Mary & Charles Counties), to emigrate to
Kentucky. The Maryland League included among others, these families: Henry McAtee, James
Queen, Bernard Cissell, William Brewer, Henry Norris, Ignatius Cissell, John Baptist Dant,
Philip Miles, John Spalding, Philip Mattingly and Harry Miles. They journeyed to Pittsburg
and then in flatboats down the Ohio River to Maysville, Kentucky, then over-land to
Boonesborough and ending up in Nelson County. (now, Nelson, Washington & Marion
Counties). [61
Our common Ancestor, James M. Queen, was born in 1820 in Kentucky. Evidently he came to
Brown Township, Martin County, Indiana as a young man and married at age 19 to Mary
Magdalen Strange. They had 2 children: Joseph born in 1841 and William Ignatius, born in
May 1845. [71
I am trying to hook up my Queen families from KY and IN to the Maryland Queen families.
Here is the lineage. Does anyone have information on their connection with the Maryland
Queens?
Our problem is in connecting James M. Queen with the other Kentucky Queens. Although we
have no photograph of James M. Queen, his description as listed in his Civil War Papers
reflects the following: He was 42 years old, had hazel eyes and dark hair, was 5 feet and
8 inches tall and had a fair complexion. He had enlisted from Martin County, Indiana and
was a farmer by occupation. (Family legend has it that he enlisted in the Army to make a
better living for his family; farming ground being poor even then in Martin County and he
had a hard time making ends meet. No one knew where he had gone until word of his death
came a few months later.) He was reported "Died of disease at Danville, Kentucky on
November 20, 1862 and is buried at City Cemetery there with other Civil War Soldiers.[71
James M.'s first wife, Mary Magdalen Strange Queen was a daughter of Ignatius Strange
and ------------------ She was born in 1822 and died April 7, 1846 at age 24. She is
buried at Old St. Joe Cemetery at Naval Surface Weapons Center, Crane, INJ81
Of their son Joseph, we know nothing further than he was listed in the 1850 Martin County
Census as 9 years old and born in Indiana. The 1860 Martin County Census lists him as 19
years old. By 1870 he would have been 29 years old and probably married and moved away as
he is not listed.
