Pat,
What do you know about your Grandfather ?
If you know anything at all, start with and use what you know and work from
there. Of course the more you know such as his name, birth date, parents
names, his wife's name. Church that he might have belonged to ?
All of these things are clues and are tracable in some way.
you can looking in land records for land that he or his parents may have
owned, look in marriage records to see when he was wed. Church records for
Bapistisms, marriages, deaths etc., county tax records if he paid taxes, may
find something on him or his family in area newpapers. I hope that this
gives you some ideas.

Subject: [INMARTIN] WHERE SHALL I START?
Hello listers,
Can any one tell where would be the first place to begin to trace
my
newly discoverd Grandfather who was born in Shoals about1800-1863? I
would
appreciate any input.
Thank you,
Pat
