Hello List,
Would someone do a lookup for me please. My gr gr grandmother, Mary Fulton
Eccles, born 26 Jan 1788, died 6 Mar 1866 in Martin Co, IN. She was a widow. I

hardly be read. One was for Willis, died 1870.One was for Iva May,died 1874.
One was between these two and I couldn't read anything. The stones were such
that a picture wouldn't show any writing. I think these stones could be
washed and straightened and a good picture could be taken. I will put this
on my list of things to do but can't say when it will happen.
> These stones were located just south of the large Inman monument which has
a fence around it.This monument has two names on it: Rev. Ben Inman, died
4-20-1877--26yrs. old.

> There were several Inman stones in the same area. One was for A.W. Inman,b.
Feb.8.1800. The rest were almost unreadable.
> I don't think this site will take a picture so I'll send a picture to your
personal email of the entrance to the cemetery.
> I don't think this cemetery has an association. The County pays the
Twp.Trustee to mow it. I think the decedents of the people buried there will
have to work on it to get it up to snuff. If they don't it could get away
like so many old cemeteries.

Looking for more info on Clayton Taylor. He was born about 1830 and married Jane Burch on 23 Feb 1852
Hi Ron,
You asked << Could my James be a son of your Thomas? Thomas' first three

Could my James be a son of your Thomas? Thomas' first three wives could be at
S. Martin cemetery.Do you have the children of Thomas?
Thomas Scott Blair's first wife was Elizabeth Bird. Married 22 June 1837 in
Lawrence Co.
In 1850 they were in Martin Co. I think that during that time, the county
line changed, again.
(I have maps showing that this happened at least 5 times). Their children
were: Matthew, Thomas W. Elizabeth, James, and another daughter whose name I do
not know. She may have died young.
Apparently this James, and here I get confused, because there are two James
Blairs, of about the same age. One married Virginia Alice Gibson, and the
married (I think my brain has gone on strike just not) and this is some of the
data I lost. I'll have to find some old handwritten notes, (I've been doing this
since before courthouses had copiers), and it may take me a while.
His second wife was Olive Lucas married, 26 Sep. 1850. They had one son,
Richard S. who must have been farmed out to relatives. I can't find him, but he
did receive a civil was pension from his father. He possibly married a
Chattin, but I have no proof of that.
#3 Was Lucretia Bradbury, widow of Isaac H. Jones. Married 28 May 1854 She
bore a son a called Jewel Steele, born 24 October 1854. There is a note in the
margin of one of the deed books that says Jewell was not Tom's son..Lucretia
died 7 July 1866.
#4 Nancy Jane Steele, mar. 25 Dec, 1855, in Dover Hill. Their children were:
Samuel Parian Blair; Thomas T. Blair, (died young) & William Sherman Blair.
After Tom's death, Nancy Jane married three more times. If you're
interested, let me know.
Thanks for your help

To Sue Kimbrel,
This list isn't complete but is what I have in my FTM. Virginia Alice Gibson is my grandfathers half sister.I don't have any more for the Blair line to date. Could my James be a son of your Thomas? Thomas' first three wives could be at S. Martin cemetery.Do you have the children of Thomas? I'll check the Blair stones again and will look around the S. Martin cemetery on my next trip there.

To Ron Gibson,
Thanks so much for the info on Thomas Blair. He was my great-grandfather by
his last wife, Nancy Jane Steele, Bigham, Parsons, who died in Kansas.
Tom's previous wives were Elizabeth Bird, Olive Lucas, and Lucretia Bradbury
Jones.
All of these ladies died in Martin Co., Rutherford Twp. and I have no ideas
where any of them were buried. Some of their children are buried in Inman Cem,
but, as far as I know, none of his wives are there.
<>
I would very much like to know more about your connection. Somehow I have
become confused between two James Blair's, one of whom is (I think) buried in
Inman, and the other is your family.
Thanks again,

Hi Angela,
Thanks for catching my ommission!
Thanks for the links to saving graves and headstone cleaning. I am sorry I
forgot to add on my instructions that I carry gallon jugs of water and wash
the stones off with water and a soft brush after I photograph them.
Someone not seeing that bit of info will go out and shave creame a stone and
just leave it to dry. You are correct in saying the creame drys soap on the
surface of the stone then deteriorates the stone by sealing it and then the
stone corrodes from within. Especially the very old sandstone and soft
marble stones.
Thanks!
Theresa

Hello Theresa,
Shaving cream works wonders in reading headstones, but shaving cream over
time deteriorates the headstone. I was told by a Graveyard Restoration
Professional that a stone is porous and meant to "breathe". Shaving cream
clogs the pores of the stone so it can no longer breathe.
A wonderful website to checkout on do's and don'ts to headstone cleaning and
restoration is the Indiana Pioneer Cemetery Restoration Project's website.
www.rootsweb.com/~inpcrp/
Another great website is Saving Graves.
www.savinggraves.com
I am glad to see people are taking an interest in the old pioneer
cemeteries. They need to be first, restored and secondly, preserved so not
only our generations can appreciate them, but also the coming generations.
Sincerely,
Angela Tielking

Hi Ron Say I think that middle headstone is for their other child IRA BARNETT McFERRIN BORN 1-26 1874 I HAVE DIED 10-4-1874 But this could be wrong. I had IVA MAY McFERRIN died on 11-4-1874 but you said from your letter that she died in 1870.Could IRA BARNETT McFERRIN have died the same year? You'd have to see the stone if you can. Thank you Ron Ken

We have a cemetery here in town that is pretty old its called Oak Hill Cemetery I think it started in the 1840's.

I think these stones could be washed and straightened and a good picture could be taken. I will put this on my list of things to do but can't say when it will happen.

Hi Ron
this was so nice of you to do this.Yes these two children of the McFerrins died at an early age they are the children of William Adkins McFerrin and his wife Caroline Matilda Inman/McFerrin my 2nd Great Grandparents.Willis Simpson McFerrin and his sister Iva May McFerrin, these are their graves. If you can I would be so happy if you could wash and straighten those headstones its sad when you bury someone that this happens to their

To Sue in Kansas,
I found a stone of Thomas Blair born 1817. It was in good shape and had the following on it:
THO.S. Blair
Co. A 52ed Reg. Ind Vol.
Died July 7 1866
49yrs. 5mo. 29da.
There were several Blair stones in the same area.
I connect with the Blair's. Virginia Alice Gibson(1856-1933) married James Blair(1845-1894)
Hopes this helps, Ron Gibson
To Ken McFerrin,
I found three possible McFerrin headstones. They were small and could hardly be read. One was for Willis, died 1870.One was for Iva May,died 1874. One was between these two and I couldn't read anything. The stones were such that a picture wouldn't show any writing. I think these stones could be washed and straightened and a good picture could be taken. I will put this on my list of things to do but can't say when it will happen.
These stones were located just south of the large Inman monument which has a fence around it.This monument has two names on it: Rev. Ben Inman, died 4-20-1877--26yrs. old.
Rev. A.H. Inman, died 3-30-1873--24yrs. old.
There were several Inman stones in the same area. One was for A.W. Inman,b. Feb.8.1800. The rest were almost unreadable.
I don't think this site will take a picture so I'll send a picture to your personal email of the entrance to the cemetery.
I don't think this cemetery has an association. The County pays the Twp.Trustee to mow it. I think the decedents of the people buried there will have to work on it to get it up to snuff. If they don't it could get away like so many old cemeteries.
I hope this information helps. Ron Gibson
