Then a few listings down on same page:
William Hendrix 27 farmer b. IN
Mary J. 25 kphse b. IN
Sarah N. 5 b. IN
Amandy 3 b. IN
Rebecca 2 b. IN
Is this the William you mentioned? If so...I believe this 1850 listing is also them...
1850 Martin Co., IN:
Richard Hendrickson 39 farmer b. KY
Rebecca 40 b. KY
MARY 20 b. IN
WILLIAM 9 b. IN
THOMAS 5 b. IN
It is VERY possible for these census records to be off a couple of years on age - depending on when the census was taken during the year, as well as normal mistakes. Does this answer your question?? I hope it helps.

I am hoping someone out there is associated with the William "Golden" Green (b) abt 1829 in IN and Mary Elizabeth Hendrix/son (b) Abt 1831 in KY family.
William was a druggist in Shoals in 1880.
They had several children: Mary, Elizabeth, Rebecca, William, Jemima, and Louie (a girl?).
It is primarily Mary, his wife, I am interested in, but hoping someone who is associated with this family might be able to tell me something about her. (And about him)
I suspect she is a sister to my ggg grandfather William Hendrix/son. But, having a very difficult putting the other Hendrix/son/cks in the area together with my own clan.
Thank you in advance,
Marsha

Dear Don Cannon, My grandfather, Weaver Bricker, married his cousin, Etta Maple Bricker. Her dad was George Bricker, her mother was Ida Lucinda Cannon. I believe they were from (in or around) Anderson Indiana. Do you have any info on my Cannon?
Hi Christine,
I don't have pictures or anything of the coal mines in Greene County
(between Switz City and Linton), other than as a young teenager, I used to go
with my father and his friend, our next door neighbor, when they would drive
my neighbors 2 ton dump truck to the strip mines for a load of coal a couple
of times each winter during the 1930's and early 1940's, before WW2.

Subject: [INMARTIN] Coal Mines in Martin or Greene County
Fellow Researchers,
I am wondering if anyone knows about the coal mine industry in the Martin and
Greene County area in the 1920's. My grandfather and some of his neighbors
came from Cambria County, PA to work in the mines in Indiana. Was mining a
big industry? Are there any books on the subject? Your input is greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Christine
Coal mining was the leading industry for many
years in Greene County; some mines still operate.
Deep mines were in operation for many years before
surface or strip mining. A book that is locally-oriented
is "The Coal Project" produced by Linton school students
and published in l989. Perhaps you could borrow it thru
interlibrary loan from the Margaret Cooper Library, Linton,
Indiana 4744l or see the websites for Greene County.
I will send your request on to another interested person
who knows much about mine history.

It's strange that we always think of Pennsylvania WRT coal mining! Coal is
one of the chief exports/products of Indiana, and has been for some time.
There are surface outcroppings in Daviess Co. in the area around
Odon/Raglesville, and my GGF, who lived for a long time just at the county
line between Daviess and Martin Co., used the loose surface coal for heating
There was a coal mine near Raglesville (Van Buren Twp.), run by Abe Stoy,
which went out of business when the railroad bubble burst around 1880/1890.
Just east of Washington, the county seat of Daviess Co., there is a town
named Cannelburg (Barr Twp.) after the particular type of coal found there.
If you are interested, I have a picture of the personnel of the Stoy mine
that you can see on my Ragle Family web site. The URL is http://jlragle.chemumass.edu/FRAMES4/stoy1896.jpg for the picture, and http://jlragle.chemumass.edu/index.htm for the main site. About 25 people are labelled in the
picture.

Hello,
Halbert's Bluff is now Shoals, IN. The east side of Shoals
sits on this bluff. Lost River Twp. is several miles south of
Shoals. Halbert's Bluff had a post office and served several
areas of the county.
Have lots of Wininger info if you need it.
Have a good day,
Nancy Baker

Lost River Twp. is in the extreme southeast corner of Martin Co. The "Lost
River" is a tributary of the East Branch of the White River, and my 1867 IN
Atlas, while not showing your post office, does show a
substantial set of bluffs around grid square 26 in R III W, T 1 N just west
of the river. A close perusal of the book by Whorrall ["A Photographic
History of Martin County"] might turn up something more definite; Wininger
is a familiar name for the area. Good luck...

I'm looking for the origins of Robert Clark(e) who married Rebecca Bolton in Martin County, 12/21/1875. He was Rebecca's fourth husband. Her maiden name was Livengood. She had previously married John Andrew(s), John Wood, and Robert Bolton, all in Orange County.
Robert and Rebecca appear in the 1880 Martin County census in the Lost River Township. The household is listed below.
Robert Clark 47
Rebecca Clark 37
Isabelle Clark 3
Laura Rebecca Clark 1
Eliza Jane Wood 12
Emma Bolton 6
All were born in Indiana, except Robert, who is listed as being born in Pennsylvania. Does anyone know where Robert might have been before 1875? I haven't found him listed as a head of household in 1870 in Indiana. If anyone knows more about this family, I would love to hear from you.
Thanks in advance,
Jill
