Beverly,
I'm researching Thomas Edwards who appears in the 1830 census in Martin Co., IN, coincidentally on the same census page as John Simmons. Thomas Edwards and his first wife (name unknown) did have a son named Daniel born between 1810-1815. This Daniel was raised by Thomas Edwards and his second wife, Elizabeth Duncan Hickman. My husband is a descendant of Joseph Edwards, a half-brother of this Daniel Edwards.
Elizabeth Duncan Hickman Edwards had a son from her first marriage named William Hickman who married Ruth Martin in 1837, daughter of Asa Martin. Asa Martin happens to appear on that same 1830 census page also.

With regard to the following information posted by Clara:
Cemeteries of Martin County, Indiana, Compiled by The Martin County
Historical Society, Inc., 1963-1971, Volume I, Page 20
Dover Hill Cemetery
Sarah G. Moberly May 20, 1839 - August 1876
Ervin W. Moberly Died 1872
Pearl Moberly Son of E.W. and S.G
if any of you live near that cemetery and can take a look at the actual
stones, would you try to determine whether the top part of the stone of
Pearl Moberly, son of E.W. and S.G. Moberly has been broken off? Sarah and
Erwin had a son named Winchester P. Moberly. He died the day after his
mother, and both coffins are listed on the same bill, so he should be buried
in Dover Hill Cemetery with his parents. Perhaps the stone originally said
Winchester Pearl Moberly and the "Winchester" part is missing. "Pearl" is a
strange name for a boy, even if it's a middle name!!! In this family, I
might have expected the P. to stand for Preston or Powhatan.
There is also supposed to be stone for one "Effie Moberly Born Jan 28
1844 Died Feb 8 1871" Could this stone actually read "Ellie"? I have no
idea who Effie might be, but the birth date would be about right for Ellie
(I have ca. 1843) I can find no record of Ellie (Amelia Jane) Moberly after
the 1870 census.
Somewhere in Martin Co., there may be a tombstone for another Winchester P.
Moberly (uncle of the one above), who died there in Sep 1849, according to
the Mortality Schedule.

Peter Ragle had gone out to his barn to feed his stock Wednesday, Nov,

died suddenly from a smothering spell, to which he was sometimes subject.
Mr. Ragle was eighty three years old, was a pioneer of Daviess County,
having settled on the place where he died near Raglesville, many years
ago. He was at one time Colonel of a militia regiment under the old
militia law. He belonged to the Methodist Church, had eight sons, four of
whom are living, and five daughters who are living. The Gazette joins
with many friends in sympathizing with the bereaved family"

children, six of whom are living. They are: Jacob, John, and Oliver, Mrs.
David H Harris, (my GGrandmother), Mrs. John O'Dell, and Mrs. C W
Freeman. When he came here in 1852, he bought a farm near Good Hope,
where he lived until 1877, when he moved here.
He was one of the twenty four organizers of the ME Church at Good Hope.
Eight of that number are still living. In 1847 he joined the ME Church
and has ever lived a christian life. He died as he had lived-an example
of Christian purity, piety and love. He leaves an aged wife, six
children, many relatives and friends to ,ourn their loss.
The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. HN King, Thursday morning
at 10 o'clock at Good Hope. Burial at Walnut Hill Cemetery."

I would like to get in touch with descendants of Joseph Wildman, Levi
Wildman, and Armsted Wildman.
Armsted Wildman was married to the sister of my g-g-grandfather, Erwin J.
Moberly. Joseph and Levi were married to sisters of my g-g-grandmother Sarah
Calvin (wife of Erwin J. Moberly), Catherine Calvin and Caroline Calvin,
repectively.
I am hoping that someone might have information regarding the birth dates of
the children of Erwin and Sarah. Erwin died in 1872, and Sarah died in 1876.
Someone kept their youngest son, Charles Joseph Moberly for a little over a
year after the death of his mother. He entered St. Vincent's Orphans Asylum
In Vincennes in Nov. 1877. By this time Catherine Wildman was dead and
Caroline Wildman didn't live much longer. I think it likely that either
Joseph or Levi Wildman kept Charles for a year, and then ended up with so
many motherless children of their own, that they could no longer keep him. If
anyone has any information, please get in touch. I imagine I have a lot of
distant cousins among the Wildmans!

FYI--Sarah and Erwin Moberly had another child--a son born ca. 1870. His
name was Jenubeth--or that's as near as I could make out from the old
handwriting. He was listed with the minor children of Sarah on guardian ad
litem papers in Sarah's probate file. His age was given as 8 on this
document dated 29 Aug 1877. You will want to add him to your records. From
info from one of Frank Moberly I believe he was called Newton. I could
never
find him on any census. I have never found anything on a "Pearl".
Also, I had Erwin Moberly's middle initial as W., not J. Do you know which
is correct?

Can anyone tell me if any Methodist Church records from the period of approximately 1840 to 1860 exist for Martin Co., and if such records exist, how I would go about locating them?
In particular I am searching for records in the Dover Hill area for 1860-1880. And in the Harrisonville (Trinity Springs) area for the years 1840 to 1860, although it might be a good idea to check the Dover Hill area for that period as well, just in case the family already lived there, even though they owned property in Harrisonville.
Thank you,
Carol
I'm suggesting other researchers check out the
following site which I've found a helpful source for
copies of inexpensive documents (public domain:
deeds, indentures, probate records) from several
counties of several states in the old south:

grasping at straws <G> He served as county commissioner, and in everal
other political positions, so I suppose he could have been appointed guardian
in that manner.........
One minor note; Nancy was George's wife, not daughter. She was Nancy
Watson, whom he married in Bullitt Co., Ky., 10 Sept. 1820. (Bullitt Co.,
Gen. Soc: Bullitt Co. Marriages)
I'm hoping someone can identify William Harris, who married Elizabeth
Shelmire 13 March 1830, and whose son, William Bedford was placed under the
guardianship of George Fraim.
Joseph John was named guardian of William Bedford Harris in 1838, (OB Nov.
1844)
George Fraim named Jguardian an. 1839, filed probate account 16 Feb. 1839
(Adm. Bond Bk A, p. 36; also Footprints in Martin Co., vol. vii, p. 138)
Elizabeth Shelmire, named guardian 19 March 1839 (Adm. Bond Bk A, p. 36)
Rufus Brown was guardian 11 Aug. 1845 when William Bedford Harris, alias
Bedford Harris, only known heir of William Harris, was summoned to
Martin Co. Court (Adm. Bonc Bk A, p. 36)
Rufus Brown was brother in law of George Fraim. (m. Ann Fraim)
Nancy Fraim, widow of George Fraim, as guardian of his four minor heirs,
received $86.88 due George as guardian of Bedford from estate of William
Harris (OB: 8 Nov. 1851)
Any relationship? Or was he just a friend/local official?

Actually, Isaac was born in 1776 in Pennslyvania. Margaret Allen Vannoy
McCord married him in 1840. She was born in 1790 in Mason Co. KY. She is
likely the woman 50-60. I wonder who the two young men are? His sons, by
whom? Her sons?
Henderson Harris married Elizabeth Brown in 1841 in Martin Co. Could be him.
No other Harris marriages fit.
Could also be Margaret's sons
Benjamin Franklin McCord b. 1822 m. 1842 Sarah G. Harris (his daughter??)
Joseph Allen McCord b. 1824 m. 1849 Emily Alford
Nathanial McCord b.1826 m. 1849 Eliza Burress
Since none of them was married by 1840, two could be her sons...one is likely
Nathaniel per census ages.

Michele,
I think this is Isaac Harris that married Margaret McCord.
1840 census - Martin Co. IN
Isaac Harris
1 male 10-15
1 male 15-20
1 FEMALE 50-60
I belive this is his mother. I can tell by the other names
on page with Isaac that he was in Rutherford Twp.
Don't know if any of this will help you or not.
