Cheryl, I have been following your LOPP postings In the Harrison Co., IN
Query form. There is at least one LOPP family group moving from NC to
Fountain Co./Fulton Co./Marshall Co. after 1805. A fellow LOPP researcher,
Donovan (DNSELS(a)aol.com) has a brother of his Joseph Lopp (b. 30 Oct 1828 in
Fountain Co., IN) as one Ensley Lopp b. 1805 in NC.
We find a fairly long trail for Ensley/Emsley/Ansley LOPP. Ensley married
one Elizabeth O. Finch 12 Dec 1825 in Montgomery Co., IN and she died 1858 in
Fulton Co. Children: James died in 1848, Phoebe A. died 1857, Elizabeth K.
died 1857, Emsley Jr. died 1856. (Children names from Fulton Co. 1850 Census)
Now with this family group all gone, Emsley need someone to watch TV with, so
he goes to one of the local clubs to look for a new wife and we find him
taking out a marriage license on 2 Jan 1856 (one heck of a party) to marry
Abigale Russell. They did not follow through with the marriage (promises,
promises). All is OK with Abby though because she marries Ephraim Moore in
1857. (I will bet that Ephraim took her to the new years party and did not
dance as well as Emsley).
Emsley, still without someone to really have a good time with, hooks up with
Harriet Sutton and they tie the knot on March 1, 1859. We find them in the
1860 Census in Fulton Co. with son Aaron C. age one. Another son, Scott, b.
1861 and died 1935 (per Fulton Co. records).
We find that Emsley LOPP, a Joseph E. LOPP and a John LOPP did not pay their
1859 taxes in Fulton Co. and my Emsley never did pay his. This appears like
the time for Emsley to jump the county line and maybe hunt for a new woman.
Dem Fulton Co. gals just don't have what it takes to keep a good man Happy.
We don't know what he did with Harriet, but he married Mrs. Mary Saylor, 31
Jan. 1864 in Marshall Co., IN. Mary was the wife of Henry R. HILL who died 2
Oct 1852 and we find her and the HILL children (James H, George and Philip)
with Henry Saylor in the Marshall Co. 1860 Census along with Alexander and
William Saylor born in Ohio (1849 & 1851) The oldest child, probably, of
this union would indicate that Mary and Henry Saylor were married about 1854.
Henry Saylor served in the Indiana Volunteers in Dec 1861 and drowned in the
Mississippi River 20 Aug 1862.
By now there are many wondering where this is going. Well, this is what
makes this hobby fun. I have been looking for my great grandmother's parents
for a while now. I had checked the 1870 census for Marshall Co. and the
county index in Plymoth did not show my Emsley LOPP?LAPP as listed as the
father on Mary Eliza LOPP DOLE's (b. Nov 16.1865) marriage license in
Orleans, Harlan Co., NE. Mary Eliza's death certificate, data by husband
John Dole, shows her mother as Mary E. Saylor. Thanks to Judy Mc Collough at
the Marshall Co. Historical Museum there is an Amsley SOFF in union Twp.,
Marshall Co. that has the Saylor children, by first name and age along with
Emsley and Harriot Sutton's children by first name and age. Some people will
do any thing to fool the law. We also find some land in E. Lopp's name in
Union Twp in 1872 showing the same neighbors as the 1870 census for Amsley
Soff. We find Emma, William, Mary born 1865 (my Mary Eliza) and Elmer. Now
we find that Mrs. Emery LAPP died Marshall Co. 14 Jan 1872 leaving 10
children. per the Marshall Co. Republican. Ten children are listed in the
1870 census for Amsley Soff.
Now what is Emsley (or what ever his is going to call himself this year)
going to do to have someone to take care of the kids. He, as Emsley LAPP,
applied for a marriage license on 24 Dec, 1872 to marry Margaret Herren, but
forgot to tell her about the 10 kids back at the ranch and called of the
whole thing. All you REAL men pay attention, Emsley is now 67 and ready to
start another family!!
Now armed with some data I did a IGI (LDS) search and I found a Henry R.
Hill, b. of Fulton, IN, married to a Mary MOW, 26 May 1844, in Fulton Co.,
IN. With this data it looks like Henry Hill was married before also, as we
find a son Phillip b. 1841, James b. 1845 and George b. 1847. Of course it
could have been Mary's child of a previous marriage, the IGI file has her
born in 1826 in Indiana, but 14 would maybe a little too young to be married.
The IGI file has Mary MOW lineage to 1703 in Germany.
Sorry to put all of this information in this E-mail, but I felt that the IN
Marshall rootsweb should have the data in the archives. I also wanted to
report a success story that went from 1865 with almost no data, to 1703 in
just a short time.
Now Cheryl, Donovan and maybe Ted what do we know about the LOPP's in NC, the
parents of Donovan's Joseph and my Emsley ? I hope there is a fit to your
data.
Marshal Co. list coordinator, will you post to Fulton, Fountain and
Bartholomew list as someone may have a fit to the data?
Thanks for your time,
Jack Dole
