I ask:
After reading posts on a couple lists for more than a year now, I've
noticed lots of folks from the Holmes Co, OH area moved to the northern
Indiana counties of St. Joseph, Marshall, Elkhart, and Kosciusko.
Was there something special about this area of Indiana around the mid 1800s?
Thanks to the many folks that offered explanations; thought some of you
might be interested in some of their thoughts......
1. a movement to establish new churches
2. better farm land; flatter and richer
3. land grants given by the government
