Hi Kathi Browne
The secret spelling is COIL, a clue obtained from your
variant spelling COYL.

I was unable to find Tabatha. There were quite a few COILs
in Marshall Co., at least 20 in various townships, perhaps
you can find more of your Coil family. <grin>

Does anyone have access to the 1860 census for Bourbon? I'm looking for the
family (below) that moved to the area in 1857. When I requested records from
a researcher, there was none for 1860 (I suspect because the spelling varied).
The 1860 census will show if Samuel's mother (Tabatha) was still alive then,
living with them.
I'm also interested if there are any other Corls in the area in 1860. Trying
to find out if other unknown relatives would have attracted Samuel to move
there.

NOTE: The spelling varied a lot and may have been recorded as CARL, CORLE,
CURL, COURL, COYL, CORAL, KORL...
