Dear list,
I thought I'd transcribe a portion of the pension file for my gg grandfather John
(Johann) Conrad Frevert. It contains a petition signed by a number of area residents, and
I thought that perhaps this might help someone pin down a date. I've deciphered the
handwriting as best I could.
Steve Frevert
Plymouth, Ind. May 9- 1885
To the Hon. J.C. Black
Commissioner of Pensions
Washington D.C.
On the Matter of John Frevert late of Co "C" 1st Reg. Ohio Volunteers, Mexican
War. For Original Invalid Pension
The Undersigned Citizens of Marshall County Ind. and neighbors and acquaintances of John
Frevert late of Co "C" 1st Reg. Ohio Vols in War with Mexico, as we have been
informed, would represent that said John Frevert from Rhematism and other diseases is now
in a helpless condition unable to perform any physical labor, and from present appearances
does not seem probable that he will ever recover therefrom. He has been laid up since
September last 1884 requiring constant attention and assistance.
We believe that if he is entitled to receive a pension at all that now is the time he
most stands in need thereof.
We therefore join in a request that his case be taken up and considered specially.
