Don't know if the Health Dept. will give you a photocopy of the
original or not, but it's at least worth a try. As I've stated here
before, I got several transcribed death certificates from Marshall Co.
(that is what you have, new transcriptions from the original books), and
a later visit and look at the source book confirmed my suspicion that
mistakes were made when the new transcriptions were typed up.
I might suggest that, if you can't get a copy of the original, perhaps a generous
Marshall Co. lookup volunteer would be willing to examine the book, if you provide the
name and death date (and probably certificate, book, and page number, taken from your
transcription- remember the Health Dept. charges a searach fee to just look at their
index). It might be even more helpful if you borrow a newspaper microfilm from the
Indiana State Library on interlibrary loan. Marshall Co. papers of the early 1900s have a
wealth of detail on local people and events and could well include an obituary (especially
if it's for a man). Good luck!
