This information is taken from the 1 April 2001 issue of "The Voice," the
bulletin for Saint Matthias Parish in Chicago. It concerns the retirement of Sister M.
Jeanette Cyr, PHJC. She is 86.
"She has been with us here at St. Matthias since 1978... From 1972-1978 Sister was
a home nurse for Catholic Charities visiting the sick and shut-ins around the Archdiocese.
From 1959-1972 she was the Office Manager for Angel Guardian Orphanage on Touhy Avenue
near, what today is, Misericordia Home. From 1947-1959 she was the Office Manager for
Mercy Hospital in Gary, Indiana. From 1941-1947 she was a Bookkeeper at St. Ann Hospital
on the West Side of Chicago and from 1930-1941 she was the Bookkeeper at Holy Family
Hospital in La Porte, Indiana. Prior to that Sister was in the Novitiate for her
community, The Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ in Donaldson, Indiana... Sister Jeanette
will return to the Mother House of her community in July to continue her out reach to
those who are shut in."
