Just want to give an update regarding John Klinghammer and his wife, Magdalena (Herdt)
Klinghammer. The Herdt family has been difficult to trace due to all the various
spellings, however, I have found when Magdalena and her family arrived, using clues in
John's obituary.
At age 15, John (name was mis spelled as Klinkhammer in the passenger list) and the
Herdt's (spelled as HAERETH in the passenger list), arrived in New York, embarking
from the port of Havre, in France. The family is listed in volume 17 of 'Germans to
America' by Glazier and Filby. Magdalena traveled with her father, brother (both
Jacob's) and sister Catherine. Her mother, Catherine Hochheim/Hoham Herdt sailed
earlier in the year, also contained in volume 17.
I do not know if Haereth is the correct spelling or not, tho I tend to lean towards it as
correct. In checking several message boards (
ancestry.com or
genealogy.com), Haereth is a
name listed. I doubt that Haereth was also a misspelling for several other families, but
could be.
Many thanks to Marshall county geneology society/historical society for providing much
information regarding these Plymouth families...without it, my family history would be
lost forever, and now I know where to keep looking! My Aunt Louise, a granddaughter of
John and Magdalena was happy to hear of this bit of history.

Subject: [Marsh'll] Argos Cemetary/Memorial Park
Recently, I discovered that my 5th great grandfather was buried in Argos Cemetary in
1870/1873. Then I came across information that said the cemetary had been turned into a
the Argos Memorial Park and some of the graves were removed and the stones were razed.
Could anyone give me more info regarding this occurance? Also, what happened to the graves
and stones that were not moved by private individuals? It is very sad that these things
happen. A picture of the stone might have clarified the year of death.
Sincerely,
Lesli

I had not heard of the moving of bodies in that cemetery. Many of my
ancestors are also buried there -- in fact, most of the people in the cemetery seem
to be connected to my family. What are your family names? I have a print out
of the burials there.

Betty - I missed this whole message. Since we both have Wickizer relatives
and many others here, what can we do? Karen Pritchett
