Hello,
I have recently located the land on platt map that my gg-grandfather George
M. Riddle owned near Inwood, Marshall Co, IN.
George M. Riddle came to Marshall Co from Monroe Co, IN between 1860-1870
and settled south of Inwood. Just directly west of his property is noted
"North Salem" - as if it was a very small town. If it was a town at some point
-
I can not locate it now on any map.
According to old family notes, some of George M. Riddle's children were born
in "Salem, Monroe Co, IN." There was no Salem in Monroe County and it now
appears from the map that their place of birth was more likely North Salem,
Marshall Co, IN. This would correspond with their move from Monroe Co to
Inwood after 1860.
Two of his children, William & Cibba Alice, died within 4 days of each other
in March 1863 and the family records indicate they were buried in Salem, IN.
Does anyone know anything about North Salem? Is there a church named North
Salem? Does it still exist? Is there a North Salem cemetery where the
children might be buried? Does it still exist?
Many thanks to anyone who can tell me more about North Salem.
Cathy
