Is anyone researching Jacob DeVeny or Elias DeVeny, who both were tailors and who lived in
Marshall County, Indiana, in the mid-1800's to the early 1900's?
Elias may have been married twice, the first time to Nancy S. Finch and the second time to
Eunice M. Hamler. His children were Edward, Judson, Dora, and Chester. Elias died in
1917 and Eunice died in 1927.
Jacob appears in the 1860 Marshall County, census at age 31 with wife, Sylvia, and
children: Martha J., James, and Henry. He appears in the 1900 Marshall County, Walnut
Twp census at age 71 with wife, Catherine, and children: Elizabeth, Charles, and Estella.
I believe this is the same Jacob DeVeny, with two different wives and families. In a
listing of Early Divorces in Marshall County, two entries are shown: Jacob Deveney vs.
Sylvia dated 8-23-1867 and Jacob Deveney vs. Catherine dated 2-10-1877.
I'm researching the Timothy DeVeny family and think there may be a connection among
Timothy, Elias, and Jacob. If anyone is researching Jacob or Elias DeVeny, please contact
me at - RCDePaolo(a)mail.ewol.com I will be happy to exchange information.
Thank you.
Carolyn (DeVeny) DePaolo
