Hi everyone,
I recently joined the list and I am hoping someone can assist me in finding
information on my HARMISON ancestors.
My gggggrandfather was Samuel Harmison. He was reportedly born abt. 1780
in West Virginia. He wed Nancy Arnold abt. 1808. Samuel and Nancy had a
number of children including my ggggrandfather, ISAAC HARMISON, born April
17, 1814 in Ohio, he wed EUNICE BARRETT in LaPorte, Indiana September 14,
1837. The HARMISON family removed to LaPorte, IN abt. 1835. Other children
of Samuel Harmison and Nancy Arnold Harmison are:
JOHN HARMISON, born abt. 1809, John wed ESTHER BARRETT, sister of Eunice,
in 1828, Miami County, OH. John Harmison was a methodist minister and a
farmer. He lived and travelled in several counties surrounding LaPorte,
IN, including, Marshall County, St. Joseph's County and White County. JOHN
HARMISON reportedly died in Marshall Cty., IN sometime after January, 1880.
BETSEY HARMISON, born abt. 1810; I've no other information on Betsey.
CATHERINE HARMISON, born abt. 1808; I've no other information on Catherine.
SAMUEL HARMISON, born April 6, 1812, he wed ELIZABETH CORNELL November 27,
1842. Samuel died in 1862 and lived most of his adult life in St. Josephs
County, IN.
MARY HARMISON, born abt. 1816; I've no other information on Mary.
JAMES HARMISON, born February 20, 1820, he first wed an Elizabeth Ivers in
LaPorte, IN on May 28, 1840; they had a son by the name of ISAAC HARMISON.
James went on to become a Mormon, moved to Utah and had a number of other
off-spring.
SARAH JANE HARMISON, born November 12, 1823, she wed a William Brown July
1, 1846 in LaPorte, IN.
My gggggrandfather, Samuel Harmison, reportedly died in White County, IN in
1841. His wife, Nancy Arnold Harmison, reportedly died between 1840-1850
in Marshall County, IN.
I have been trying, without success, to locate information on my
ggggrandfather, Isaac Harmison's sisters, Mary, Catherine and Betsey
HARMISON, and to find 'proof' of death for his brother, John HARMISON; and
of their parents, SAMUEL HARMISON and NANCY ARNOLD HARMISON.
Can anyone on the list tell me if there are cemetery indexes for White and
Marshall counties in Indiana; and how I might go about accessing them?
Also, can anyone tell me if there are any websites on-line for accessing
marital records of marriages that took place in Marshall and White
counties? I live in a small town in northern Wisconsin and our resources
are quite limited. I've checked the Indiana Marriage website and found no
matches for marriages of Mary, Catherine and Betsey Harmison. Presumably,
they did marry in either LaPorte, Marshall or White, IN.
Thanks.
Hope
