I've "rescued" three old photographs which are identified as the parents of
Annie GRINSTEINER. The photographs were all taken at the Pickerill's Studio
in Indianapolis, IN sometime in the 1880's. The man and woman pictured in
the photographs appear to be in their 60's at the time the photographs were
taken. There are 2 copies of the woman's photograph and one of the man.
Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information
regarding this couple:
Mary A. GRINSTEINER was b. 1823, married to George GRINSTEINER (b. 4 Mar
1820-d. 3 May 1889) and also had a son George (1854-1924). Mary died in
1902 and is buried along with her husband and son in the Holy Cross and
Saint Joseph Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN. The couple lived on North Noble
Street in Indianapolis at the time of George's death, having previously
lived on East Market Street where they had an undertaking business. George
had previously been in partnership with the HERMANN Undertakers, the first
business of its kind in Indianapolis.
Census records provide the following details:
1870 census of Indianapolis, IN:
G. GRIENSTEINER, age 52, an Undertaker, born France
Maria GRIENSTEINER, age 46, born PA
M. GREINSTEINER, age 24, born OH (a female)
Joseph GREINSTEINER, age 22, born OH
Anna GREINSTEINER, age 20, born OH
Theresia GREINSTEINER, age 17, born OH
George GREINSTEINER, age 16, born OH
William GREINSTEINER, age 11, born OH
Ida GREINSTEINER, age 7, born IN
The spelling of the last name changes within the census document from
GRIENSTEINER to GREINSTEINER
I am hoping to find someone from this GRINSTEINER Family so that the
photographs can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this
family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
