These persons would be the neighbors who were the first purchasers of land
who resided near an ancestor of yours or mine in a particular county. For
instance, my ancestor bought land in Sect. 22, Twp 16, Range 6, in Hancock Co,
IN, and I found his neighbors by a method which I forgot. I have a stack of
hard copies of persons in whom I had an interest several years ago in several
Indiana counties, but have since found additional persons in other counties
and would like to find who their neighbors were. The Bureau of Land Records is
very helpful in placing people in the first half of the century because the
census didn't show the names of persons in a household until 1850. I either
forgot how [very possible] or there is a different method now on the BLM site.
These people were all the original purchasers. I don't think I am explaining
this very well.
