Hello -
This is a posting to the Frederick County, Maryland rootsweb list. I didn't
know if any of the wise and wonderful people of this list might have an
answer for her. I am curious too because I am distantly related to the
Easterday family.
Take care,
Ange

Subject: [MDFR] Marion County Indiana
I recently went to National Archives and got the pension record for the
brother of my ancestor who was born in Frederick County. (George Leonard
House Rice). George had never married and all I knew about his was his birth
and death date. I would have never found him if he had not had 3 given names
like so many in the Rice and House family. To my surprise, I found that he
had inlisted from Marion County Indiana and apparently stayed there the rest
of his life. When I came home, I of course looked for him in the census and
found him in 1870, living with an Easterday family. This really sparked my
interest as this too is a Frederick County name. So I went to Marion county
on the Genweb. What I found was a notice with the Lutheran/Reformed church
cemetery (Fall Creek) that said "These people were descendants of 7 families
from Middletown, Frederick County MD who came in 1820. They were former
members of Zion Evangelical Luthern Church at Middletown. The
church at Fall Creek's first minister was Abraham Reck from the Zion
Church. Names I recognized and some of who I am related to in their cemetery
were Easterday, Reck , Rice, BlessingmHouse, Deardorf, Bower, Rhoades, Derr,
Slagle.
My question is - what was the purpose of the moved from Frederick Co. MD to
Marion Co. IN? It seems that it might have been a church move but I don't
know. Others followed from Middletown. Then again it may have been bounty
land grants. Does anyone know the answer?
