I wrote to you earlier today and then as I was thinking about it, on a hunch, I entered
the name but spelling it as CULDEN. Discovered something interesting. I found the family
in 1870 in the city of Indianapolis, in Marion County, Indiana. And sure enough, the name
was spelled CULDEN. Frederick gave his place of birth as Ireland. Mary was calling herself
"Mollie" (not uncommon for women named Mary). Frederick is 38 and Mollie is 29.
The boys are listed as "Herbert" 14, and "Franklin" 10. But
here's what's interesting: Both boys gave the surname of GREEN, not CULDEN (or
CULLODON) And whoever gave the census takers the information said both boys were born in
Illinois.
So the boys may have been Mary/Mollie's from a previous marriage.
If I find anything else will let you know. There is a passenger list on line for a
Frederick Cullodon for a ship that arrived in 1837. It appeared that he was traveling
alone but I couldn't verify that. He was only 5 or 6 so he would not have been alone,
but there didn't seem to be any other Culloden's aboard. The list was not very
legible.
Let me know if you want me to look up anything else for you.
