Bob, My earliest known ancestor is Thomas Kennedy who is first shown on the
1830 census of Brown Co, OH, Huntington Tp. He is then listed on 1840 census
of Hancock Co, IN, Buck Crk Twp. where he lived the rest of his life until
his death in 1876. His dau, Mary Jane, b 1826 in OH, mar. first John
Underwood, b abt 1805, in Harrison Co, KY. After his death she mar. Frederick
Hendrix aka Hendricks, in 1859, in Hancock Co, IN, after the deaths of their
spouses. Frederick's first wife was Aphra aka Aphrey Owings, who d sometime after
1850. Aphry was b in Rowan Co, NC and her lineage has been well documented.
Frederick and Aphra were mar. in Wayne Co IN abt 1835 (from memory) and are
first shown on the 1850 census of Hancock Co IN. Frederick and Mary Jane
Kennedy Underwood Hendricks were my g-grandparents.
An Isaac Hendrix who is presumed father of Frederick is listed on the 1830
Wayne Co, IN, census with two young males, one of whom could be Frederick,
and the other possibly George Hendricks who is shown living in Hancock Co, IN,
Buck Crk Tp: however, I have nothing to prove they were brothers. There was
lot of interaction among various families of Frederick and George, but
nothing that would prove that they were, indeed, brothers. Old Isaac Hendrix age
79, b NC, is shown on the 1850 census of Hancock Co, IN and I do have an
indenture which shows Isaac Hendricks and Lydia selling land to George Willetts
sometime after 1840 and before 1850 (I have exact dates) -- this portion of
land is adjacent to Thomas Kennedy's land according to an atlas of Hancock Co,
IN. There was an Isaac Hendricks who mar Lydia Jones during the 1840s, and I
am only speculating that this is the same Lydia. I like to have signatures,
so I usually try to find documents that would likely have them -- although,
Isaac and Lydia both signed with a mark.
Frederick's and Mary Jane's dau. Emma Rachel Hendricks is my grandmother:
She married Benjamin Johnson Davis, in 1890 in Lowell, Lake Co, IN. Benjamin
is the son of Nathan and Susannah Angeline Pryor dau of Wm John Pryor and
Martha Martela Brashears, both born in Lawrence Co, TN. William was conscripted
into the Rebel army against his wishes, and was one of the Tennessee
Invincibles. He was captured and sent to Camp Morton where he took the 'oath',
and
fought for the Union. During, or before the time William was captured,
Martha and their ten children were transported by the government and Union
sympathizers to Indianapolis, then to Hamilton Co, IN where they resided in
Noblesville the rest of their lives.
Nathan Davis's father [my gg-grandfather], Benjamin *Jefferson* Davis,
married Lucinda Galloway abt 21 Mar, 1831, in Henry Co, IN. Benjamin was born in
Lancaster Co, PA according to his obit. Per censuses, one claims his birth
year abt Nov 1810 and the other abt Nov 1802. I have never been able to
find the ancestors of Lucinda, but there were James and Joseph Galloway in
various documents. Joseph Galloway married Marianna Gwinn and their dau. Rebecca,
married Leonard Reddick: Joseph is likely the brother of Lucinda. All
resided in Hamilton Co, IN.
Some of the names associated with these families are: Christopher Ruley,
Catherine Shirley, Therma Wickham, Smith, George Hudson, Askren, Paralee
Creason, Lucinda Strickland, Mary Ann Adams, Nathan Johnson, Naaman Barron,
Leonard Reddick, Nora Kelley, Frank Hampton, Gurney Godby/Godbey, Vint Singleton,
Daniel Whicker, Allen G. Duke, Jesse Miller, Silas Ray, Sarah Sargent, Daniel
Burris, Mary Arnett, Jonathan Burris, Farrar, Ledbetter, Ross, and many
others.
My main objective is to try to find the maiden name of Thomas Kennedy's
spouse, Mary, who was b in Ohio abt 1805-6. Thomas is my earliest known
ancestor, and was b 1793, in VA. I have no additional information concerning Thomas,
other than he was likely related to the large Kennedy family who removed to
OH from PA, and populated Brown Co, OH
Also would like to find definitive proof that Isaac Hendrix aka Hendricks is
my gg-grandfather and the names of *his* parents. Is there anyone on this
list who is a descendant of "south" Henry Hendricks and spouse, Ruth Knott,
who can prove their relationship via primary documents, bibles, DNA, etc.?
Many of the above persons were married in Marion Co, IN.
If anyone has any information or is related to any of the above persons, I
would appreciate hearing from you.
Thank you,
Virgene in northwest Indiana

Virgene, the names of the first signers will be posted to the Archives
website probably, and if they are not, I will post them here.
I have an old petition that was written in 1824, and the problem with many
of the names on it, maybe 150 all total, are they are signed in their own
hand and it is a challenge to decipher the spelling. I'm going to give it a
try soon. Who are your kin? Bob
