If you have any ancestors who were ever in Marion County before 1900, I've
been working on updating my Biographies page - not the offsite link.
https://sites.google.com/site/marioncountyingenweb/home/biographies
There are presently a little over 1,000 names listed so far, but besides
the presently available bios (of course, more whole bios to come), I am
going through one of the books in the townships section, and indexing into
the list of bios the names included in each township and noting that you
should read the corresponding township history (each township history is
already on my site) to locate a specific name. They could be included as
living in the township but not assessed on real property, or they could be
listed with a mini bio in the township history and possibly with a
description of the location of their property, or you may need to read
through the history to find where they are mentioned. You could enter a
name in the search engine and it will show you where they are listed. The
bios index is an alphabetical index with last name, first name, middle
initial if any, and then the township the name was extracted from. You can
then go to that township history listed in the far right-hand column to
read the county history, or you could probably then do a search of that
page just with you web browser and find how many times the name is listed.
The name should then be highlighted and you can then scroll down the page
to see how it us mentioned without reading the entire history.
However, I get caught up in reading them all because its been a while since
I typed them and I find it fascinating to investigate my old stomping
grounds and the info that I didn't know when lived there.
I'm not done with the indexing but hope to be soon.
