Hi Bob,
You're right ... It's way too hot outside to cut the grass, and I will add,
very humid down here in GA! AC is one of the greatest inventions of all
time :)
Thank you for the new link for the Central State Hospital. It has been
redone since I last checked it out a couple of years ago. I would love to
take a picture of the monument at the cemetery that shows GGM Emily's name
on it. Have you had any luck finding information at the medical museum that
you discussed?
I haven't checked cemeteries around Marion Co. for any other Schneiders,
because I have death information on all of our Schneiders (that I'm aware
of, although there may be others ...), except for GGF Albert Schneider, and
Grandpa George's youngest sister Sadie, but we're fairly sure she died in
MI. Checking around Marion Co. cemeteries might be a good idea, since the
Schneider family lived for awhile in Van Buren after GGM Emily died.
Hope you're having a great day!
Terre

Terre, I am on vacation and it's too hot to cut the grass! L.O.L.
Central State Hospital burials DID NOT HAVE tombstones but a monument has
been put up with all the names of those buried. Here is a link that
describes what you can find out from the records.
http://www.in.gov/icpr/2893.htm
If you come to Indy, you may want to check with the archives on 30th St. and
take a tour of the medical museum. They ask for a five dollar donation.
Have you found any more Schneider's in cemeteries around Marion County? For
instance, in the Mt. Jackson cemetery next door there is a burial of JOHN
SCHNEIDER Sep. 23, 1897, in Sec. 3, row 4, grave 41. There may be a
tombstone here. I can send you a map so you can find it...or you can go to
the Wayne Township link here:

Yes you can visit these two cemeteries. If you have been on STREET VIEWS on
Google, just in the north view you will see a little gate house and that is
where you can pull in and pull over.. Bob

Hi Bob,
Thank you for taking time on a weekend of all times, to check this out for
our Schneider family!
Do you know whether the cemetery is open to the public? I'm considering
taking a trip up to IN next spring, and would love to take a picture of her
grave to add more depth to what I have already learned about Emily
Schneider.
I don't know if I shared this with you or not, but I was able to obtain
copies of the inquest the resulted in Emily being committed to the hospital,
as well as a description of mental and physical condition throughout her
hospitalization from the IN State Archives, but it contained no information
as to the treatment regimen or the medications that were prescribed for her.
Would records even exist for such things going back that far?
Hope you are having a fantastic day so far!

I found the Central State Hospital book and it shows buried in section 2,
EMILY SCHNEIDER from Grant County, date July 25, 1923.
A monument has been erected on the site with all the burials on it. It is
just West of Tibbs Av. and about 300 feet North of Washington St. If you
want to see the lot where the cemetery is go to Google home page, and click
on MAPS. In search window put: 196 N. TIBBS AV. INDIANAPOLIS, IN. Click on
SEARCH MAPS. Click on STREET VIEW, and click on FULL SCREEN and with your
left mouse button held down, drag picture to reveal 360 degree view.. On
one side of street you will see an opening between trees and shrubs which is
the Sec 2,3 and 4 of cemetery and other side you can see the red brick
buildings of old Central State.
Section 1 is at Vermont St. and Tibbs Av. This cemetery is just South of Mt.
Jackson cemetery and just East of Floral Park cemetery. Bob
