Hello,
How kind of you to offer!
I am interested in learning more about my great great grandfather.
His name was Georg Friedrich GUNZ. He was born in April 1822 and came to the USA about
1850.
He settled in Columbus (Bartholomew County) Indiana, then moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and
then to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1870, back to Columbus, Indiana briefly and then returned
by 1875 to Indianapolis where he lived the rest of his life.
In the USA he went by the name of Fred Guntz.
I am lucky enough to have a copy of his baptismal record which says:
translation of copy of baptism papers ...
Kingdom of Wuerttemberg
Jurisdiction and District Court of County of Mergentheim
Township of Weikerheim
Abstract from Baptism Records
in the year of 1828
on April 22 at Noon 1 (sic) O'clock
in the branch township of Queckbronn
was born legitimate and was baptized on march 1 also
Georg Friedrich
parents Johann Georg Gunz; citizen and baker at the same place
Maria Dorothea, maiden name Mohr
Sponsors Georg Michael Hoehler, Farmer in Oberstettem
Friedrich Gruen, single (the rest untranslated)
The accuracy of this abstract is witnessed in Weikersheim on June 9 1852 by the evangelish
Pastorate of the Kingdom of Wuerttemberg MAYERS
I have traced my family in the USA but have not done anything in Germany. I would love
any help that you might be able to provide to help me find out more about his family and
the area he came from.
There is a family story that he had a brother that came to the USA too but I don't
know anything else. I thought that the brother or friends/neighbors might have settled in
Columbus, Indiana but I have not had any luck finding anything.
Thank you,
Angela

Subject: [INMARION] Research for german ancestors
Hi all listers who were so friendy to help.
I will try to give some help concerning research in Germany. But first of all, you must
know theplace your ancestors came from, otherwise you won't be really succesful.
For example, if you have only a surname and want to locate the name now, you can do a
lookup in a german telephone book:
www.telefonbuch.de. You then can give in in the first
line only the surname, if you know a place, you can give it in in the second line. If the
name is seldom, taht would be good for you.
Searching for german emigrants which before have emigrated to Russia, you might be able to
find some informations at
www.odessa.org. For some german places in Russia there
esxists a book for the families who had lived there.
Thanks for all your help. I would be glad to help in some way.
Rose, Deisslingen-Lauffen, Baden-Wuerttemberg
