Dee, A person who works with tin, and soft metals. A Tinsmith. Here
is a
good link to teach you the craft. I would recommend you try and make
something, and you can tell the kin that this was William's line of work. I
have always wanted to make something over a blacksmith's forge and will be
learning the trade this spring! Bob

My great grandfather was also a tinner, he repaired metal roofs on
buildings. The tinner's paint color of choice was red and my father was
familiar with that, and he always called it Tinner's Red. The home my
parents bought in 1947 had a tin roof which eventually they replaced with
asphalt as it was more reliable than a tin roof. My great grandfather when
he was not a tinner, owned a hardware store in the Bloomfield section of
Pittsburgh. The store is now a tatto parlor.
Oh, that site was so cool Bob! I think that I would be tempted to try
that, but I'm really a coward when it comes to possibly getting cuts
on my fingers and that certainly looks like a possibility. <:-|
Thanks so much Bob and JR for the explanation.
