Thanks for the info on the census/soundex records.
I will look for an archive or LDS library here in the San Diego, CA area.

say there are only about 10 of them in total.) They have all
census/soundex records there.
If not, try for an LDS library (Latter Day Saints---look up a Latter Day
Saints church in your local directory and call them and ask where the
closest one is---you don't have to be a Latter Day Saint..they welcome
anyone). Or try a public library. Many of them who don't have
census/soundex rolls (which is most) can get them on inter-library loan.
