My ancestors Thomas and Rachel (Hays) Ruark moved to Marion County in 1834,
and lived in and around Indianapolis until 1861, when they moved to Putnam
County. When they left, they donated some land in Indianapolis to a
Methodist church. This land was possibly located at the corner of 38th and
Meridian.
At some time around the second world war, the church either left or closed,
with the land reverting to the city. Any descendants of Thomas and Rachel,
who bothered to try to prove their descent, received a small portion of
money. I've found several other Ruark descendants who say their parents
received part of this money.
I'd like to know what records remain of the original donation of the land to
the church, and what record might be have been made of the descendants who
claimed this money. It'll help find cousins who know a bit about their
ancestry.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
