Hi Pat Salisbury,
Well I don't have much to go on. I was talking to my dad tonight and he
remembers a Bill (William) Ayres that lived out on Post Road just north of
Franklin TWP High School. It was just pass the hill a littlle ways on the left
hand side as you are heading to wards US 52. It was the first house on the
left.
Here is how my dad remembers it. My dad John Andrew Schakel had just bought
a new 1939 Ford Converable and was heading into Wanamaker on Post Road. When
he got to the Bill Ayres place Bill's horse had gotten out of the pasture some
how and jumped infront of my dads car. My dad hit the horse but did not kill
it. The horse dented the right front finder and broke the windshield on the
right side. When the Sherriff got there Bill told the Sherriff not to worry
about anything that he knew my dad and he will take of everything. My dad was
able to drive the car home. When my mother Berenice Amalia Miller seen the car
she cried. It still had the horse hair in the broken glass of the windshield.
Dad also said that Bill Ayres was in some kind of Public Office at that
time. Not sure what office it was. Hope this helps. <\:-)) Shack {John Andrew
