DJ, you really brought back some wonderful memories of our old hometown.
One of my fondest memories was Thanksgiving day. We could hardly wait until
dinner was over, with all the great foods. Dad would take us downtown where
we would wait with anticipation in front of the old Ayres windows for them
to unveil the most magical animated Christmas scenes in the world, that
unveiling was the beginning of the Christmas season for us. When Dad had
his cerebral hemorrhage when I was small, my older brothers and sisters
continued the tradition.
We loved to ice skate at Lake Sullivan and could hardly wait each year until
the ice was thick enough.
Thanks for bringing back all the fond memories.

And to help list:
City Market and all the old vendors.
The cheeses and teas. Libby's and the ladies I bought fresh chickens and
eggs from.
The circle on Christmas Eve and how quiet it was. You could hear the snow
falling.
Walking thru Crown Hill and looking at trees and feeding squirrels that were
bold as brass.
Old real Lake Sullivan and sledding and skating on a big frozen pond. Hot
chocolate at a big bon fire.
The old fish hatchery at Lake Sullivan and the large amounts of green happy
frogs.
Having a big day downtown hitting Wassons, Blocks and Ayres. Sorry I like
the tea room at Blocks the best. Chicken salad and that warm pecan roll.
The
men sitting on THEIR side having martinis in coffee cups and a bowl of
Blocks
famous bean soup. The models walking thru as you ate showing the stores
wares.
Driving down old Maple Lane which became 38th street in front of the
cemetery. All the double rows of old "hard rock maples" that turned bright
yellow in
the fall. Driving at night thru the maples with the old street lights
glowing.
Some of my memories. Before the 70's and so much change and waste.
