It seems to me that I recall that during the 1890s into the late
1920s,
among
city dwellers, there was a propensity to move frequently. (Note family
addresses that changed frequently during this period.)
Geri-----I think the above
also occurred after the 20s. Due to school
enrollment. Students were required to attend school and parents didn't
want to change during the year, especially when renting. After WWII more
people owned their own home and were unable to move as frequently. When I
was first married, we lived in the county in the summer so we could have a
garden and in town (city) in the winter for convenience. The roads were
not plowed then.
In the 30s my parents also moved often. Maybe due to size of family,
income increased, closer to school when children reached age. We lived at
four different addresses on the same street from the time I was 2 to 5
years old---possibly more than that.
