I have the "Button" line pretty solid, it is just this Farris (yea,
variant spellings) that
is eluding me. I did locate one land transaction (1862) for a John E.
Ferris -
The 1840 census has a [John?] Feras, page 287, top of page and
on page 288, there is an Elias Faras; I have some data on Elias but can
find
nothing to link him to Sarah. Elias is probably the approximate age for
a brother. The LDS ancestral file shows an Elias, born 1816 in
Fleming County, KY; his father is John, also born Fleming County;
Sarah says on the census record that she is born KY, so this may or may
not be the line.
So, I think you can see what I am trying to establish or disprove,
either way
it works for me.
I do appreciate your time and help. Rolene Kiesling
Rolene, I suggest you try this link for a land search for your Farris
family.
I did look and found several Farris families listed in Indiana - but none in
Marion Co. I also searched for "Button" family and found Wilson Button who
buys land in Marion Co., IN in 1837, also a Harrison W. Button who buys land in
Fulton Co., IN in 1838.
I searched census index for a Farris family in Marion Co., IN for the years
1830 and 1840 and found none in Marion Co., IN, but then I did a "soundex"
search and found a John Faras living in Marion Co., IN in 1840, and also an Eli
Fares living in Marion Co., IN. Eli is young and listed with a wife, but no
children. John is married and has several children listed (of course, no names
are given on the 1840 census, except for head of household). There is a John
Farris listed on the land records search, but he has bought land in Owen Co.,
IN. So I just don't know if this is the same John Faras/Farris. Also, there
is a John Faras listed in Ohio in 1820.
I wish I could be of more help, but I think you will need to be creative with
the spelling of the "Farris" name.
This land search is free, all they ask is that you enter your zip code. Good
luck.
