Hi Vicki:
Here is his Civil War pension:
William J. Knauss
10th Ind Inf
Invalid
App. 641445
February 23, 1888
Here's the index for the 1870 Census. If you don't have their census
record, let me know and I'll send it to you:
KNAUSS, J. WILLIAM
State: IN Year: 1870
County: Marion County
Township: 9 W Indianapolis Subd20 Page: 583
I can't find them in the 1880 Census.
Nan

Subject: [MARION COUNTY, IN] KNAUSS family of Indianapolis, Marion Co.
I'm trying to find information death/burial information on William Jacob
Knauss b. 1807 and his wife Lennia (Lena?) Simmerman (Zimmerman?) b. 1832
were both from Pennsylvania, but lived in Indianapolis as early as 1864.
Three known sons, Miles Dana b. 1864, Clarence M b. 1866. and John b. 1874.
William claims he was in the 10th Indiana Infantry during the Civil War,
but no record of him was found on the rosters. His claim for a pension was
active as late as 1889. I am also hoping to find a connection to another
Knauss family in Indianapolis, that of Christian and Johanna, with sons
Christian G., John D., Lewis P. and Samuel. Any help is appreciated.
