hello
Robert,
I don't know about the orphanage in Marion, but my grandfather, Otto VERONA,
and his three brothers were placed into an orphanage in Alexandria Indiana
(Madison County), in 1901. My grandfather and his brother Herman were
adopted between 1901 and 1902, before my great grandmother (Alexina) could
retrieve them (she ws forced to place her sons into the orphanage after her
husband, John Philippe VIRONET, died of TB in the Grant County Infirmary in
1901). This
family was Belgian, and only spoke French, and pronounced the VIRONET
surname like "veronay", which sounds like the Italian VERONA, so the people
at the orphanage renamed my grandfather "Otto VERONA". Anyway, I have asked
every historical society in that area (in both Grant & Madison counties)
about this mysterious orphanage in Alexandria Indiana, but haven't received
any useful information. I would like to obtain the orphanage records for my
grandfather. I have the official Indiana request forms to obtain orphanage
records, but haven't submitted them yet. Supposedly, all Indiana orphanage
records can be obtained through the state (in Indianapolis), if you can
prove that you are a blood relative of person(s) that were adopted.
ttyl,
Matt Verona (Vironet)
Houston Texas

Subject: [INMARION] Orphans Home
BlankI need some help if I can get it.
In 1898 directly across the street from 1450 Spruce St. was a German
Protestant
Orphans Home. Is it still there? probably a dumb question. Was
it there in 1918? Would anyone have the faintest idea where to look for
records from this Home?
Any help speculation or down right lies would be a help at this
time.
Thanks
