Subject: Re: Irish Hill section of Indianapolis
Thank you for your letter requesting information about your family.
Unfortunately, I do not have any information on the Irish Hill Section of
Indianapolis. The State Archives has records that have been sent here by
State Agencies. We are not able to undertake genealogy research. We can
only answer specific questions concerning state records. For instance,
records commonly used by genealogist are the Civil War records, sent to us
by the Adjutant General's Office. We also have records for the Mexican
War,
the Spanish American War, and World War One. World War II through
the
present are considered confidential and can only be obtained by next of
kin.
We also have land records for the original purchase of land from the
Federal
Government, which can also be obtained from the Bureau of Land
Managements
website.
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ If the land was purchased from
someone else, those records would be available on a county level.
These are just a couple of examples of the types of records available
here.
You might also want to check out the website for the Indiana State
Library,
which has a genealogy room.

If the genealogy division doesn't have any information on the Irish Hill
Section, you might try the Indiana Division of the State Library.
If I can be of any further help, please let me know.

Hello,
I have read that during the mid 1800's the state of Indiana sent an offer
to
the citizens of Ireland to come and work for $10.00 a month. Many
Irish
citizens did just that. Many of them settled in a section of
Indianapolis,
which became known as Irish Hill.
I am desperately looking for information on my GG Grandmother. Would you
please advise me if there is any broad ranged data base, newsletter or any
source of information on the settlers. Just for good measure, her name
was
Bridget Breen Smith Kelly. After reading surnames like that, I am
sure
you
could see why I am not having much success finding info.
Many thank you's in advance,
Cecilia Hearn Cope
