"Marion County Health Department Offers Special Hours for Genealogists"

(317) 541-2408The Marion County Health Department whose regular hours are
8:00 a. m. to 5:00 p. m. Monday through Friday is now open until 8 on
Wednesday especially for those doing genealogy research. During this time the
researcher may view the film of any birth (including illegitimate but
excluding adoption related) or death record. Birth and Death records start in
1882 for Marion County. Death records start 1872 for Indianapolis.There is a
75 year privacy restriction on issuing of birth certificates. There is no
restriction on issuing death certificates. Their birth and death indexes
start 1955. Before that date they must provide the date of the event.They
will search the death index for three years at no charge. Certificates for
birth are $6.00 and for death $7.00
