I am looking for an old street map or town layout of Indianapolis circa
1860-1882. My wife's ancestor lived at the following addresses and we are trying
to determine exactly were they would have lived and what schools might have
been around those addresses and or other businesses
318 East Washington
222 North East
88 Broadway
Also, Frederick W. Fout (Faut) mentions in his book "The Dark Days of the
Civil War"- 1861-1865 [Book 1 of 2] that he marched out on Pennsylvania Street to
Camp Morton. Where was Camp Morton? Secondly, he writes about that they
were quartered at what was known at the Bellefontaine car shops, what was this
place and were in Indianapolis area would it be today.
Frederick Fout was a 1st Lt/ 15th Indiana Battery and also in the 7th
Infantry (3 month 1861) Company E and I.
Book 1-Deals with his experiences in the West Virginia Campaign of 1861, The
Antietam and Harper's Ferry Campaign of 1862, The East Tennessee Campaign of
1863 and Atlanta Campaign of 1864
Book 2-Written in German deals with the Campaign of Schofield and Thomas
against Hood in Tennessee and the Battle of Franklin and Nashville.
Reading the books we are finding stories of individuals from Marion County
who were in his units and about people and there experiences during the Civil
War plus some photographs.
