Work was begun last October on the restoration of the Dake Cemetery (aka
Dake-Fansler Cemetery) near the town of London in Moral Township, Shelby County,
Indiana and will continue this spring and summer.
The John DAKE, William FANSLER and John BOWMAN families traveled together
from Virginia to Indiana in 1828 and were among the first settlers in Moral
Township. The three patriarchs and many of their descendants are buried in this
neglected pioneer cemetery. Other surnames identified to date are SURBER,
COPELAND, MEANS, McCLAIN, DOYLE, VANDIVER, STANLEY, GOSSETT, HIRTH, HIBLER, THOMPSON
and FIELDS.
Anyone interested in helping with the restoration may e-mail
