Hello;
This is in response to your message, which you sent to the Reference &
Government Services Division of the State Library.
If you have a complete citation (name of newspaper, city of publication,
date of article, and page number of article) for the article, we can
provide copies of obituaries and similar announcements in newspapers, as
well as articles from any of our newspapers or periodicals.
We no longer do general searching for obituaries or similar articles,
where only a date of death or burial is provided. With only a date of
death, we would have to search several days of the newspaper, possibly
in several communities. This is why we no longer offer this particular
service.
If you only have a date of death, you can use the interlibrary loan
services of your local public library to obtain the newspapers you
need. Just let them know the city, name of newspaper, and dates you
need to search, and they will obtain the newspaper for you to use in
your hometown.
I hope this clarifies matters. If you have suggestions for improving
the language on our Web site, we would be happy to consider it!
Sincerely,
Andrea Bean Hough, Senior Subject Specialist
