This is the information from the Indiana State Library website. I requested
several very old obits online and received them for $.25 each plus postage.
However, they no longer do lookups as of 3/1/2000. They are located in the
Indiana State Library building.

The Newspaper Section contains print editions of current daily and weekly
newspapers published in Indiana and print or microfilm back files of both
currently published and discontinued newspapers. It is the largest repository
of Indiana newspapers in the world, with almost 80,000 reels of microfilmed
newspapers available for use on-site or through interlibrary loan. The
Newspaper Section is located in Room 210 of the Indiana State Library.
Photocopying information is available.
Materials are received daily from various cities throughout the state.
Because most issues are mailed to the library, few are received on the day of
publication. Generally, the library receives the current issue between 1 and
7 days after publication. The Indianapolis Star is available each morning
after 8 a.m., Monday through Friday.
Important Notice About Obituary Requests
Effective March 1, 2000, the Indiana Division no longer answers requests to
search for obituaries in its newspaper collections. Patrons are encouraged to
request the necessary newspapers on microfilm from their local public library
through interlibrary loan or contact a for-hire researcher. Indiana Division
staff will use the time made available by this action to increase the number
of databases made available over the Internet.
